Bethany

After seeing the doctor, he recommended some foods I should eat as well as medicines, but I couldn't help wondering what mum was talking to him about. Was she sick? The part that confirmed my suspicion was when she bought some drugs. I needed to know why so I asked her on our way out.

"Hey, mum what was that about? Are you ok?"

"I'm fine Betty, just a slight Tommy ache," she said quickly stuffing the drugs in her bag.

I'm excited to see the house, dad has been the one taking care of things.

We checked out of the hotel after lunch, I enjoyed my stay there and I'll definitely miss the lovely bedroom and food. We went on a long drive and finally arrived at a dreamy, modern beach house with a lovely view of the city. I was Impatient to see my room, inside it were paintings of all kinds, a larger wardrobe and study space, also a place for my architecture board and tools, it felt cozy, I couldn't wait to get into bed.

"Wow dad this place is amazing," Amy said, jumping about in her room.

I lay back in bed after I'm done unpacking and text kate and Justin, I haven't talked to them since I got to New York. We talked for hours until they had to go.

"Dinner time" mum calls out. With that I rushed down the stairs, we all sat by the table and prayed, it's like a custom to always pray before a meal. After that mum dished out the meal, "Wow it looks lovely mum." My stomach churned with appetite, pleading that I dig in.

We all talked about what we want to do in New York City and the places we would like to go to.

"Mum I want to go to the statue of liberty!!!" Amy says excitedly.

"And I think I would like to check out universities I can transfer to," says Tony.

Tony has always been a very brilliant person, sometimes I get envious of it although I'm not bad myself, my shelf of science fair trophies can prove it but they're nothing to compare with Tony's. Sometimes I fear I'll always be in his shadow. he's studying Anesthesiology and that's quite a big deal.

Anyways mum asks where I'd like to go, to be honest, I don't know so I just say I'd take a tour of the city" besides I need inspiration for my next art project.

The next few weeks went in a brisk and soon it was summer.

I couldn't wait to hit the beach. The weather looks so lively, the sun's even smiling but at the same time this means school starts soon and I'm certainly not ready for the whole new girl's experience, but I certainly want to make a good impression or I'd regret it for the rest of the year.

So I decided on a strategy for a good first day;

I'd show up just in time for class wearing a really cute outfit.

Sit with the popular kids at lunch and just try to be cool

Maybe a little naughty during classes

On second thought that'd probably be a very bad idea, just like when that main character in my favorite telenovela crashed the wrong wedding, pretty awkward yeah.

I decided to visit the neighbors and introduce myself.

"Hi, my name is Bethany I'm new in this neighborhood," I say holding one of mom's famous apple pies. But a grumpy looking man howls at me to get off his property slamming the door in my face, I felt so irritated.

I moved on to the next and the lady there threatened to call the cops, I was starting to wonder what was wrong with everyone but then a girl rode past me.

"Hey...you new here?" she asks, pressing the brakes on her bicycle.

"Huh yeah so far everyone's mean" I whisper hiding my face.

"You mean those two houses? Earl and Gladys, they're mostly cranky but the rest of us are pretty friendly."

"I live at the next house, I'm Olivia Rodriguez and you are?" bowing in courtesy.

"Bethany stone" bowing back.

We both stop to laugh for some minutes and soon started talking about different things.

"My grandma used to work in a garage in a warehouse, and often took me with her to work. One time she didn't keep her eye on me, and I snuck out. She found me inside the garage. I was standing next to a barrel of gold grains, rubbing the gold into my hair.  I thought I would look like Rapunzel! Although we washed my hair several times, I still left traces of gold wherever I went for the next few weeks, like a fairy."

"No way that's hilarious," she says laughing so hard, making her amber eyes glow. I loved seeing her smile, it made me feel like we're gonna be best friends.
