CHAPTER 26:

park rosé's point of view

i've realized that not all the smiles we saw are real.

some of them are just masks used to hide different problems we are going through. some smiles could fool us into thinking that that person is okay, when in fact, deep inside, they are not.

i want to put a new meaning behind smiles. instead of it being a mask, i want it to be a ray of hope. i want to smile to people and make them feel like they're not just nothing. i want to believe that one smile could make a difference. a difference that could reach even the problems behind the masked smiles.

so i made it my mission, to always smile at people.

i'll try to not keep my head held low when i was walking, i'll try to see people eye to eye and help cheer others up through just one smile that could make a difference. we never know, maybe that smile could save someone.

and so that's what i did.

i just know it. some people smiled back at me, some ignored me, and some just looked at me weirdly. but that's okay. it's the thought that counts. i may look kinda weird, smiling at people i don't know, and my face muscles are already hurting, but my hard work would pay off.

"rosie, are you okay?" joy eonnie asked. "you keep on smiling. like you're not afraid of people anymore. i'm so proud of you."

oh, i'm still afraid. i just want to help make a world a better place.

"noona, you're weird today." the walking dead, i mean, jihoon said. what's up with him? why does he looks like he's sleep deprived? and why do he still look cute even if he looks like a zombie?!

"chaeng noona?" oh yeah, they're talking to me and i just spaced out like that. my bad.

"i'm okay." i smiled. my face muscles are hurting so much now. ouch. "by the way, what's wrong with you, jiji? you look like a walking dead."

"i stayed up all night." then he yawned.

"and why would you do that?" joy eonnie asked.

"i was a playing a game and well, i lost track of the time. before i knew it, the sun is already rising and i haven't slept a wink yet."

that's so jihoon thing to do.

"you want me to buy you coffee? you look like you're gonna collapse there any minute." i asked.

jihoon nodded, "let's go to the cafeteria together, noona. i want to eat waffles too."

"me too!" jisung said. why does this kid look like a walking dead as well?

"you guys, we just had our breakfast." joy eonnie reminded us.

"but we're already hungry again!" the maknaes answered. i giggled. someone might think we aren't feeding them if they heard us.

"eonnie, oppa, i'll go with them to the cafeteria. you both can go ahead to your classes already."

"you sure?" jimin oppa asked.

i nodded, "i can handle them." it's not like jihoon and jisung are still babies that needs to be taken care of anyway.

but no, they're not babies.

they're zombies.

and well, they're zombies who needs to be taken care of.

i had to cling into their arms to keep them up as we walk to the cafeteria. and when we arrived at the cafeteria, they fell asleep with their heads buried in the table. i sighed and just went to order coffee and waffles.
