Chapter 5: Quest

That night I was worrying a lot. Wolf visions kept on following me and people were still staring at me like there was something wrong with me. Finally the conch horn blew for campfire time. It was the same, as in we sang songs but when Chiron came and joined us, he pounded his hoof and the whole of camp fell silent.

‘This morning, Artemis,’ Chiron motioned me to stand, ‘has given me grave news. About a message she received. Artemis, fill them in.’ so for the third time of today, I told them about my dream and Lycaon’s warning about me going there or he’ll attack camp. When I’d finished, everyone began talking. Who was the third person? Why me and Percy? How had Lycaon’s pack grown? Chiron pounded his hoof on the floor. ‘Heroes, questions will all become clear later. Right now, it is clear that this is a quest. Percy and Artemis are two of the three. Now Rachel, we need a prophecy.’ A redhead stood up. So she is Rachel and an oracle.

Rachel swooned and three campers rushed forwards. Two caught her and one pulled a three-legged stool and eased her onto it. When she opened her eyes, they were glowing green. Smoke billowed around her and when she spoke, it was a raspy sound. Like what a snake would sound like if it could speak.

In the west, awaits the werewolf king,

Three shall go to him by the middle of spring.

The forge and ocean shall decide whether they prevail or raze,

The fear shall become cursed to the end of her days.

The ghost king shall join along the way,

And find a love which will finally make him stay.

With those words, Rachel collapsed and the campers helped her down into a corner. There was a long awkward silence. Campers were not sure how to react. This prophecy didn’t exactly sound good. Finally Percy broke the silence ‘Okay, I think we should worry about the cursed part later. Artemis, I think you should choose who you want to take for this quest.’

‘So, according to the prophecy, I’m probably the fear, Percy is probably the ocean and I’m guessing the forge is Hephaestus.’ I said. No one in under the Hephaestus looked pleased about this. Leo stood up, ‘I suppose I should go since I’m senior counselor,’ he looked around ‘unless anyone else wants to go.’ No one spoke up. ‘So guess I’ll go.’ He looked at me, ‘If you’re happy with me.’

‘Course I’m happy. You’re the man I’d choose.’ I replied.

Chiron was watching us carefully throughout that entire time. ‘Well, giving the wording of the prophecy, I think you have a good team. You’ll set out tomorrow first thing.’

‘Hey what’s all that about the curse?’ someone yelled from the crowd.

I glared in that direction, ‘I don’t know but I’ll find out soon enough right?’ Then I turned to the Hephaestus group ‘Do you guys have any weapon with silver?’ I asked. Leo stood up ‘We have a few. Hopefully it’ll be enough. You can have a look through the forge in the morning.’
