Chapter 6: We go on a suicide quest
So Artemis probably told you, we have a really weird quest that needed to be completed by the equinox and that Percy and I are supposed to be the ones to decide whether we survive or die on a suicidal mission. Yeah, cake.
I woke up in the morning a little dazed. Groaning, I got out of my bunk. At first I was about to head towards the Mess Hall, but then I remembered I had the quest. Shrugging on my tool belt, I trudged to the forge to scour for some silver weapons. Luckily, we made some during the Giants War when we had to fight some nasty wolves. I grabbed a few and stuffed them in my backpack and ran to meet Artemis and Percy at the hill.
Artemis is great. Natural warrior she is, and kinda protective though her eyes are kinda scary. Percy is a really good friend. We met each other in around five minutes and Argus, the security guard drove us to Manhattan, where Percy asked him to stop. So great. We’re like on the other side of the world to San Diego and taking a taxi is going to take forever. Not really helping. ‘So, how are we gonna get to San Diego?’ I asked, ‘You said not to take a plane…’
‘I actually was thinking of taking the train,’ replied Percy.
Artemis was really silent. She looked really disturbed. Probably about the prophecy. Finally she spoke up ‘Percy’s right. The train I figure is the fastest way. Other than a plane…’
‘No please.’ Percy shuddered. Sighing I headed towards the subway. We quickly bought our tickets and hopped on. We didn’t really worry about what train we were going on just so long it headed west. After a full day of travelling, thankfully without monsters, I figured we were somewhere around Chicago. Groaning, I staggered to the nearest empty place. Under a stairwell, I waved for Artemis and Percy to come. They looked about as tired and as hungry as I did. I decided to fix them some tofu burgers. ‘So we’re in Chicago now right?’ Artemis asked. ‘Yeah.’ Percy replied. ‘Something like that.’
‘So how far till San Diego’ I asked.
‘We’ll see how far we get. From what I know, it’s a two day trip from here to San Diego. Then we’ll have to take a taxi to wherever Lycaon is.’ Artemis said. Wow. ‘So how we’ll we make it in time?’ Percy asked.
‘I’ll see if I can contact Lycaon and tell him we might be a day late.’ Artemis replied.
‘Gee, you make it sound like we’re meeting Lycaon for a party instead of being dinner.’ I said. Artemis gave me a death stare ‘Well, we don’t want him to destroy our camp.’ She replied, ‘So I’ll try as soon as I go to sleep. So, is dinner ready?’ I sighed. ‘Almost.’
‘Good ‘cause I’m starving.’ Artemis said. Yeah, I think I could hear the growling of her stomach.
I served the tofu burgers and Artemis commented that they were really good. After I cleared the plates, she fell onto her backpack and fell asleep. Percy and I stayed awake for a while. ‘So, what do you think the curse is?’ I asked breaking the silence.
‘I honestly don’t know.’ Percy said, ‘My best guesses, she might get bitten by Lycaon and become a Lycanthrope.’ We were silent. That didn’t sound so good. ‘Well, get some sleep bro. We have a long day tomorrow.’ I said.
‘Yeah. Night.’ Percy replied and started snoring. I stayed awake for a little longer thinking about tomorrow and then sank into sleep.
