BEAUTIFUL

I was sauntering my way to the lift, the 4 inches heels of my stilettos are creating a clinking sound as they touch the floor, when I heard my name being called. Kakatapos ko lang mag hatid ng mga papeles na kaka-approve ng CEO sa tatlong departments at pabalik pa lamang ako sa office.

"Miss Mendez!"

When I stopped and turned around, I saw that it was an intern from the HR Department half running towards me, holding a few folders in her arms.

Medyo hinihingal pa siya nang maabutan ako.

"List of promotions po for approval by the CEO," she said upon handing me the folders. "Nakaligtaan pong ibigay sa inyo kanina."

I nodded.

"Okay. Thank you."

Tinanggap ko ang folders mula sa kanya at nagpatuloy sa paglalakad.

I was about to go directly inside Brennon's office when I heard him talking to someone. No... it's more like arguing. His blinds are on so I couldn't see who he is with.

Nanatili lamang akong nakatayo sa labas. Itinabi ko muna ang folders na dala ko sa sariling desk.

"You're being absurd, Brennon!"

It was a woman's voice. It was so close to being hysterical. And I know that voice so much.

"I know, Lorie. But I just need more time, okay?"

I knew it.

Nasa Manila pala siya?

I can sense that Brennon's trying to be calm but I know based on his voice that he's also about to lose his patience. Ano bang pinag-aawayan nila? Is it about the project?

"God! I can't even talk to you right now!" she exclaimed.

Pagkatapos ay narinig ko ang yapak niya na papalapit sa pinto. And then the door swung open.

She was stunned when she saw me standing there. Pero agad naman siyang nakabawi. Her expression turned hard, then she walked away.

Nagdadalawang-isip pa ako kung papasok ako o hindi kasi sigurado akong hindi maganda yung timpla niya ngayon. But I decided to go inside anyway.

Naabutan ko si Brennon na nakatayo sa gilid ng desk niya at hinihilot ang sentido. He looked stressed. Nang mapansin niya ang presensya ko ay umayos siya sa pagkakatayo.

"Is everything okay?" I carefully asked as I made my way to him.

"Yes," he replied but he's obviously lying. Sinalubong niya ako. Bahagya niya akong hinila papalapit sa kanya. And then I felt his embrace. "How long have you been standing outside?"

"Not long," I replied in honesty. Hindi ko naman naabutan yung buong kumusyon nilang dalawa.

"Nagkasagutan kayo ni Lorraine?"

I was a bit hesitant to ask because I didn't want to pry.

I heard him sigh. From my position, I can clearly feel his loud heartbeat.

"It's nothing," he simply said.

But why do I feel like he's hiding something?

"Do you want to go on a date this weekend?" he asked after a long silence.

Kumalas ako sa yakap at tiningnan siya. His hands are on my shoulders, while mine's on his waist.

He's dismissing me again, obviously dodging the topic.
