PHANtastic Holiday (A Christmas Special)

Sleepless Night

Dan's POV:

I woke up the next morning tired because I didn't get much sleep. I was nervous about calling Phil. I'm not really sure why. I usually don't feel this way but, when Phil and I were talking yesterday it was just so nice. His eyes just lit up the room and when he smiled I couldn't help but smile back. At one point I think I blushed but I didn't want him to notice.

I got up to take a shower and then got dressed. I went into the kitchen and ate some breakfast. I pulled out my phone and I was about to call Phil to ask if he wanted to go somewhere, when suddenly I got a call.

"Hi Dan! It's me, Laney" Oh no. I had completely forgotten that Laney and I were supposed to spend the day together.

"Hi Laney how are you?" I was really hoping that she called to let me know that she would be too busy.

"I was just wondering if we were still going to hang out?"

I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't want to be rude to Laney.

"Sure, where did you want to go?" Why did I just say that?

"Oh good! I still have some shopping to do for Christmas so would you mind coming along to keep me company? Then we could go out to eat."

"Sure, what time?"

"I can meet you there around 1pm so in an hour."

"Sounds good. I'll see you there." I hung up and put my phone back in my pocket.

I wanted to be with Phil today but also didn't want to upset Laney. I guess I could talk to Phil another time.

Phil's POV:

Dan hasn't called yet. Maybe I should call him. But I'm scared that it would make me seem desperate.

Just then I got a call. I grabbed my phone so quickly I wasn't even sure if I was human for a second.

"Yes uh hello?" I was nervous.

"Phil? Hey its Chris!" I was disappointed but maybe he was with Dan.

"Oh. Hi Chris what's up?"

"Nothing really, Peej and I were wondering if you wanted to hang out. We were going to spend the day with Dan but I guess him and Laney are on a date."

"Sure when?"

"Wanna meet at the bus stop in about thirty minutes? We can all walk to the mall."

"Okay, see you then."

Dan and Laney were on a date? He didn't tell me they were together. I guess I shouldn't be upset. It makes sense after all. I put my shoes on and grabbed my hoodie, then made my way to the bus stop.

I could see Chris and Pj off in the distance. They turned around and saw me.

"Hi Phil!" Said PJ.

"Hey Peej"

We all made our way to the mall. Pj and Chris were up ahead talking and I stayed behind lost in my own thoughts. I guess they noticed something was wrong cause next thing I knew Pj had his hand on my shoulder.

"Is everything alright Phil?"

"Oh yeah everything's fine"I lied. I think he knew I was lying but decided not to ask again.

Dan's POV:

I stood outside the mall waiting for Laney to show up. Finally I could see her coming.

"Dan! Hi!" She gave me a long hug. I wasn't sure when to pull away. I didn't want to seem rude. Finally she let go and we went inside and walked into a few stores.

"Dan I'm really glad you came with me today" She was looking at clothes but put them down to look at me.

"Oh yeah. Me too."

Laney looked at me then reached her hand down and grabbed mine. I left it there for a second but then quickly pulled away.

"Look, Laney I think you're great. But I'm not sure I can date you."

"Oh.... Why?" She said looking embarrassed.

I honestly wasn't sure why. Why did I not want to hold her hand? She seems nice, and she's pretty. What was it that was stopping me?

"I... I think I like someone else." I admitted.

Just then I heard my name.

"Dan?" I looked over and saw Chris. Behind him was Pj and Phil.

"Hey what are you three doing here?"

"Well you were busy so Pj and I called Phil and we all came here just to look around."

I looked over at Phil. He was looking down a bit and seemed shy. I couldn't help but smile at how cute he is.

"Hi Dan." He said looking up. I could see his beautiful blue eyes. I couldnt stop smiling at him.

Just then out of nowhere Laney grabbed my hand in hers.

"Oh I see you two are together now" said Chris.

I was about to speak up when Laney stopped me.

"Yes, Dan is just so lovely." She gave me a kiss on the cheek and looked over at Phil. Phil had his head down again avoiding my eyes.

Is Laney doing this on purpose?

"Okay well we should be going. We'll leave you two alone." Chris said.

They both walked away except Phil. Who for a second stood there as if he was about to say something. He lifted his head and we made eye contact. Before I could reach out to him or call his name he walked away.

I knew I wouldn't be getting any sleep again tonight.
