kaitlyn's pov

"what are you doing with my sister?" griffin shouts storming over to us.

"relax, griff, she's almost 17. you can't keep babying her all the time." bryce says from behind him.

"stay out of this, hall. i'm her guardian, therefore, i control her." he says sternly.

"actually, nobody controls me." i cross my arms at my older brother.

"don't correct me. get inside this instant." griff points back towards the house.

"chill, bro. her and i were just going to go to the beach. it's not like she was going with some stranger. i'm 19. chillax a bit." jaden sticks up for me as i stand there not going back to the house.

"i'll kill you, hossler." griff snaps trying to go at jaden.

"aye aye. you need to calm the hell down." bryce holds griffin back.

"i'm done with your overprotective shit, griffin. i'm online schooling from now on. i'm tired of attending a school where i'm not even welcomed. that's what i was going to tell jaden before you rudely interrupted with your tough overprotective big brother bullshit. i get bullied at school, griff. i'm tired of being treated like shit. the kids here in cali aren't like the kids in illinois. they're different." i look down at the ground.

"baby sis.. i had no idea." he softly says at a loss of words.

"i'm going to sleep. i'll talk to you tomorrow." i turn on my heel and start walking back to the house.

"katie, wait up!" i hear jaden shout from behind me.

"what do you want, jay?" i sigh quickening my pace.

"you're not walking back alone. especially not at this hour. i would never let anything happen to my best friend." he puts his arm around me.

"you're only saying that because i'm griff's baby sister." i pout at him.

"not true at all. i enjoy spending time with you." he messes up hair causing me to playfully smack him in return.

"if you say so." i sing-song as we walk up the driveway.

"go get some rest. i'll deal with your brother. technically it's all of my fault that you're in trouble right now so i'll be taking the blame." jaden says unlocking the front door.

"thanks, jay. i appreciate it. good luck with him." i pat him on the shoulder before walking upstairs.

"oh, one more thing." he closes the front door slowly.

"yeah?" i pause at the top of the stairs looking down at him.

"sleep well." he winks at me.

"uh go fuck yourself." i fake cough into my hand before walking into my room.

~

just like usual, i wake up from my slumber due to a nightmare. when griff and i were younger, he'd sleep in my room every night until the nightmares would stop. two months. two months of my nightmares and he still stayed with me.

they've been gone for about 5 years now but recently they've been coming back. i can't stand it. i've suffered so much ptsd in my life that it's insane. i'm surprised that i'm not in a mental facility already.

i sneak downstairs and hear that the downstair's living room's television is on. i immediately panic so i decide to try and sneak away but it's already too late.

"kait, what's wrong?" i hear jaden worriedly ask.

"i have cramps?" i come up with a stupid lie so that he doesn't find out the idiotic reason as to why i'm awake.

"you're a terrible liar but i won't push you." he chuckles from the couch.

"it's embarrassing." i walk over to where he's sitting.

"nothing's more embarrassing than your girlfriend dumping you on a livestream in front of millions of fans." he assures me.

"wait what?" i jump up extremely puzzled by the news i've just been told.

"mads and i broke up." he shrugs.

"jay.." i trail off.

"don't. it's fine, kait. fuck her." he spits while taking a sip of his drink.

"can i have a sip?" i smile at the raven haired boy.

"hell to the no little girl. this is an alcoholic beverage, therefore, you cannot have such a thing."

"you're no fun." i plop down on the couch with a grumpy face on.

"your 21 year old brother will murder me. i'm not even suppose to be drinking his alcohol." he admits.

"i swear. you guys treat me like a baby. i turn 17 soon! i'm not that young." i pout like a baby.

"the answer is still no. i'm drinking my pain away. you need to go back to sleep."

"i can't." i immediately say.

"why not?" he curiously asks.

"my bed is uncomfortable." i lie.

"lie again." he nods his head.

"you know me too well." i cringe.

"just sleep on the couch then. i won't leave you." he looks at me for a while.

"i swear to god i will kill josh or anthony if they wake me up in the morning." i warn.

"i will make sure that those fuckers stay silent until miss princess here is awake." jaden playfully rolls his eyes.

"this is why anthony's my favorite." i tease.

"he's basically your boyfriend." jaden giggles.

"so what? we kissed twice. he basically has a thing with avani. she's also my friend. whatever happened between us is long over." i assure jaden.

"what about josh? him and nessa aren't together anymore so you might as well slide into his dm's." he nudges me.

"i will never date a sway boy. you guys are my family. that'd be too weird." i chuckle.

"yet you kissed anthony." jaden points out.

"erase that memory from your mind." i tackle him.

"you did it, not me." he defends his case.

"alright! i'm a little bit of a hypocrite but josh richards? of all the sway boys? i'd rather date bryce and he's WAY older than me." i admit to him.

"alright, that's enough talking for you, missy. hit the hay or i'll kick your butt." he pushes me off of him.

"you're an amazing person. i just wanted to mention that." i sarcastically say.

"fuck you." he sticks his middle finger up at me.

"goodnight to you too." i throw a blanket from the couch over my body.

"goodnight, katie."
