kaitlyn's pov

it's four am and i hear jaden blasting music. is he alright? i'm genuinely concerned. it's four am. go to sleep.

i walk past jaden's room and it smells like good ole marijuana. he must be high or some shit.

"jaden, are you in here?" i knock on his door slightly.

"duh. where else would i be?" he dumbly asks.

"can i come inside?" i stand at his door awkwardly.

he waves me inside and i sit at the edge of his bed.

"we should do something totally insane." he lays on his back next to me.

"like what?" i lay on my stomach.

"we should sneak out right now and go enjoy the scenery. maybe we could even watch the sunrise. after all, the sun does come up in an hour." he explains.

"fuck it, let's do it." i jump up.

"you driving?" he asks.

"why don't we walk? let's go to the beach or climb the hill behind our house." i suggest.

"let's do it." he gets up and shuts his loud music off.

sneaking out was the hardest part. after we get outside, we walk to the beach using the flashlights on our phones to guide us.

i take off my shoes and run into the sand freely. it's so peaceful without all the chaotic beach goers. the sound of the waves clashing together makes everything seem like one big dream. the waves come up to shore and i dip my bare feet in. the feeling is quite refreshing.

i run around like a little kid taking in the wind and the fresh air. i run into jaden's arms and he lifts me up just like in dirty dancing when johnny lifts baby up.

i stare into his dreamy eyes and he stares into mine back. sparks fly all around us. this is so wrong but it feels so right. he grabs my face with one hand and cups it. he kisses me with so much passion, it's crazy.

i pull away and smile up at him. we make our way to the hill and i lay my head on his chest as we lay watching the sunrise.

"this is so beautiful." i stare in awe as the beautiful orange and pink shades of the sky rise to be the sky of daytime.

"just like you." jaden boldly says.

sometimes i can't tell if he actually has feelings for me or if he's just bored. maybe he's just desperate since mads isn't in his life anymore.

"let's go back." i suggest.

we get up and start to talk down the hill. when we get to the bottom, he grabs me by the hem of my shirt and kisses me. i pull away abruptly.

"i'm drawing the line here, jaden." i step away from him.

"well, i hope you know i'm crossing it." he bites his lip.

"i'm serious. you can't keep kissing me. i'm griffin's little sister. he'd kill us both if he knew that we were kissing behind his back." i cross my arms at him.

"you make no sense, kaitlyn." he snaps.

"what's that even suppose to mean?" i get upset.

"one minute you're all over me and the next you're cold. i can't tell what you want anymore. i thought we had something. i thought we were going to actually be together." he admits.

"i can't. i want to but i can't. griffin will kill us. i can't do that to him. you're one of his best friends. it's not right." i sigh walking back to the house.

"so that's it? fuck my feelings?" he shouts.

"if that's what it takes for whatever this is between us to end then so be it." i turn around one last time before walking away.

tears fill my eyes. i just broke him but i also broke myself. god, what did i just do?
