"Uhhhhhh Tao, TAO wake up the platforms shrinking!!!" Idoka said urgently, shaking her counterpart. Even though they had started the night at least six feet away from each other, now their warm bodies were pressed against each other in a way which made them both feel like they were going to vomit. Tao's eyes fluttered open as she realized she was way too close to Idoka, who was already trying to evacuate away from Tao. "WAKE UP, if you have not realized already in you foggy morning state that WE ARE ON A PLATFORM THAT WILL DUMP US INTO BLOODTHIRSTY FLAMES IN APPROXIMATELY NOW!" Idoka yelled a half smile growing on her face even though their position was so grim.
"I realized that, thanks." Tao responded sourly. She began to shake, as her feet dangled over the roaring, sooty flames.
"Relax we'll be alright haven't you noticed that ours is the only column which is shrinking! If we can figure out a way to get to one of the other ones, we can postpone our deaths!" She said half quizzically and half excitedly. Tao suddenly lurched off the platform, which had begun to shrink more rapidly. With lightning-like reflexes Idoka's hand found Tao and she heaved her to the foot-long platform.
"We need to jump quick!" Idoka yelled over the roaring flames. She pointed to a platform which was so distant to them it was practically impossible to jump to. Tao bent down and made a cup with her hands and Idoka put one of her feet in it taking a deep breath.
Idoka's Pov.
I hoped with all my soul that this would not be my last breath or the last person I ever saw. I had so many dreams that would not be fulfilled if I did not make it if I fell to the inferno.
"Um, Tao if I don't make It, I just want to say- "But Tao cut in before I could state another word.
"Stop, don't say it because you will make it." And with that we counted off, her accented tone uttering the first words that ever agreed with mine. As I lifted off my life seemed to flash in front of me. My childhood, never having a scrap to eat, being grateful of my slim survival on the streets. I remember vowing to myself to change my life and the lives of my fellow orphans and with that promise, I took every class I could, every free privet lesson, charging through hell with that promise bellowing in my head. I stared down into the flames licking at my air born toes. My life seemed to be in slow motion. My sister died by a car crash; my shoe was burned off by the inferno. My foot was on fire as I remembered when the bullies at my middle school burned ever book, I had ever bought. But then, I got my feet on solid ground, and one last memory burned in front of my eyes. The letter inviting me to a high school for kids only with ambition and over average intelligence.
