Tao's Pov.

We were on the last platform next to the gap, Idoka had already made the final leap. I had stopped holding my breathe whenever one of us jumped, I had gotten used to the feeling of leaping blindly through the air. We were both in the gap when I said.

"We made it Idoka, we finished the first challenge!" I said with so much enthusiasm that Idoka gave me a wide-eyed incredulous look. Ruining my moment of triumph, a booming voice emanated through our ears. The voice was laughing. Simply, sarcastically laughing.

"What is it Games Master, we know you're out there." Idoka muttered irately. Then, what sounded like footsteps rung out behind them, then the same cold voice of the Games Master said softly.

"So, very smart." Idoka and I spun around but the only thing which was behind us was the roaring flames. Suddenly I felt like I was being watched, or a spider was spinning its web around my neck, tickling me when my head was turned away.

"Idoka, Idoka RUN!" I yelled instinctively, grabbing her arm, but my warning was of no avail. The flames that were outside our dark inlet roared into our haven. The blaze surrounded us forming a defining, crackling wall of impenetrability. A voice rumbled into our eardrums; the voice seemed to be coming from the flames themselves.

"Easier than I expected, for the two smartest kids around." It said cruelly following that by a cackle of terrifying delight.

"Where is he coming from now." I yelled exasperatedly.

"You who, here I am." The voices replied. Idoka's exasperated expression turned to comprehension as she began to tie her shoe. But over her bent shoulders I saw a figure silhouetted against the flames. A tall thin figure with a twisted metal mask, obscuring his whole face except his jade green eyes.

"Kids, welcome to the second challenge. It's time I warn you that your friendship will last no longer and it- "But the wicked Games Master was cut off by Idoka who said courageously.

"Stop calling us kids! And you should know that any amounts of torture and suffering will not break my personal bonds!" She yelled. Idoka got to her feet and took a bold step towards the mysterious man. "You can break me, burn me and kill me, but I will always gladly take that for my friends, I'm not afraid of you." She said taking another menacing step towards him. He took a threatening step towards her and by this time they were almost nose to nose, blue eyes making a familiar connection to the green ones. But the moment a word was going to come out of her mouth he disappeared. I had no idea where he went until I saw a shimmering green blade making its slow path towards my throat.

"You should be afraid of me, you should cower in fear when you see me, shiver when you hear my name because I know what you care about and that is more powerful then gravity, hotter then the sun and more lethal than a driving knife." He whispered into my ear. The words were so quiet they could not be herd if anyone else was in the room but to Idoka and I they seemed to engrave themselves into our very souls. "For your stupidity, you will die." He hissed.

"Not today and not ever." Idoka yelled, and with that she pushed the Games Master towards his own bloodthirst fire, grabbed a lever on the floor and we flew into deathly darkness.
