                                                                             Prologue

Thunder cracked lightening up the dark sky. The wind blew furiously showing off the powers of the sky. On the ground in a huge field of green stood five people; a man, two women and two children. The area surrounding them was in a state of no recovery. Trees were on fire, some burnt and others have the orange flames licking their branches . The ground had soil erupted from it leaving big holes in the ground.  The cause of all this was lying asleep in her mother’s arms.

The tall, blonde woman held the baby in her arms in a bundle of blankets. Her face was streaked with tears and mud, her blue dress was ripped at the side revealing her left leg which was covered in blood. The wound was above her knee. To put it bluntly, she was a mess. If an outsider saw her, they wouldn’t know that beyond the dirt stood a beautiful woman that was the fantasy of many men.

She was humming to her baby, the weird lullaby ringing in the ears of the people stood in the field. It was dangerous to sing the lyrics of that lullaby, however, the little baby could only sleep to that song. Therefore, her mother opted to hum the tune rather than risk singing the lyrics. The tune was enough to send shivers down her body.  The baby fell asleep as the tune died on her mother's lips.  The blonde woman looked up and caught the eye of the eccentric woman opposite her.

“Zelda...,” whispered the blonde woman.

The woman, named Zelda, gazed at her through a poker face. No sympathy was felt for the blonde woman opposite her nor for the baby.  Zelda was clad in a long, brown skirt and a matching tank top. Her black curls were wrapped in a shawl that flowed down the length of her body. She wore many jewelleries that contained strange symbols. Many people mistook her for a gypsy.

She glared at the blonde woman and said, “You must leave. I warned you, didn’t I? That kid has death in her shadows. She will be the doom of us.”

“B-b-but-this is our h-home. A-a-all our families and f-f-friends are here. You can’t expect us to leave. T-t-this is our world,” stuttered the baby’s mother. Tears were trailing down her cheek as she clung to her baby tighter. The other kid was hiding behind her mum’s legs. She, too, was crying. The sound of her sobs was hidden by her hands. The man beside them said nothing and stood further away from them, looking for any signs of danger.

Zelda eyed each member of the family until her eyes focused on the innocent baby that no care in the world. She laughed at the irony, her cackles echoing through the woods. If it was possible then the family would have seen her looking at the extra member of their family with hatred. Despising the little girl with all her soul. She, finally, tore her eyes away from the little bundle and glared at her mother.

“Your world? That baby will wipe out our existence with one look. I warned you when you got married, when your first child was born and when you got pregnant again. That is more than enough warning for one person, wouldn’t you think so? I told you to kill her, get rid of her, do anything as long as she doesn’t exist in this world. But, you had to be stubborn and keep her,” she said through clenched teeth, “You will have to face the consequences now. Leave. If anyone else knows about her, you will all be dead. You saw what happened earlier, didn’t you?”

The child’s mother shivered at her words. She remembered the exact meeting when she was told by the ‘gypsy’ to abort her unborn baby. Loathing the woman and her words, she ignored Zelda for ten months. The blonde woman though that Zelda had forgotten about it. But, that was just a measly hope, an empty wish, everyone knew that Zelda never forgot anything.

Now the baby’s mother had put her family in danger. Who would have thought that an innocent, one month old baby could cause an outbreak in the very field they were standing on at that moment.

She slightly nodded at Zelda, shying away from here. She didn’t dare gaze into her eyes. Every time it made her cringe. There were a few times where she would stare into her eyes. Zelda had no iris and her pupil was a light black that looked like it had been fading over time. Her eyes were all white. She was blind but her senses were too strong to pity her.

“Good, I’m glad you finally understand. Go and live with those people. Don’t blow your cover. If someone finds out about her, she will be used as a weapon. When she’s older, she will meet three people. They will guide her unintentionally to her doom and ours. I’m not saying who these people are but try to prevent her from being friends with them.”

And with that, she muttered some strange words under breath until she disappeared and left the family to their misery. The husband and wife gazed into each other’s eyes. They knew this day would come when they heard Zelda’s prophet twenty years ago. However, having ignored it all these years was no use. It didn’t prevent the truth from happening.

“Mummy?” whispered the older child, looking up at her mother. Her face was covered in tears, mud and snot. She was a mess yet her blonde pigtails were still neat, not a hair out of place.

“Huh?” Her mother was still in a shock. Too much had happened today. Zelda’s words swirled in her head try to form sentences. She never thought her daughter would cause such a riot. They say to never take Zelda’s words lightly. Unfortunately, she did exactly that. Now, she wasn’t prepared for the future ahead. She kept ignoring it. Ignorance was a bliss, after all.

However times she thought of Zelda’s words, it all came to one conclusion. Either way, her daughter would be the death of them. As she looked down at her oldest daughter, she felt a small regret at keeping her younger daughter.

“Oh sweetie, don’t worry, we are going to leave and move to a new place.”

“Why mummy?” she asked, confusion in her big, blue eyes.

“Because, we found a nice, big place that you kids will love,” her dad answered in his deep, gruff voice.  The father had light brown hair and blue eyes.  His blue shirt was covered in blood with blobs of mud in random places giving it a new design. His blue eyes pierced the surrounding for any danger. He spotted the portal a few miles  away from them. He didn’t dare make it come closer for fear of being discovered. He led the way to the portal, his wife and child trailing behind.

One by one they went though the portal to their new world, their new home. At the last minute, the blonde woman turned around and surveyed the area. The last time she will be here. Never again will she be able to step foot in place without fearing for her life. At this thought, she allowed one last tear to slip from her eyes, leaving a trail of salty liquid.

She looked down at her baby and said a few words to her. The baby opened her eyes at the sound of her mother’s voice but didn’t make a sound. She stared with her mismatched eyes at her mother. Curiosity filling those big orbs. Her mother was aware of her daughter’s intelligence and she knew that her baby would understand every word. They may not make sense now but they will later on in her life. If she ever remembers.

“Say goodbye to your home, baby. This isn’t your fault. It’s not your fault you were born like this and into this cold world. But, know that I can’t take the blame all the time. No one will believe me anymore. I will protect you with my life. Though, that would be no point. Sooner or later you will find out all the secrets. But, for now, live like a normal person. Sooner or later you will realise that the end lies with you.
