As soon as I entered the building I paused for a second taking in the scene in front of me. Lifeless bodies scattered the floor of the lobby. I frantically searched for Paji. I couldn't find him any where. On my way here I had sent a message to Shruti.

She came hurrying towards me and I embraced her tightly. I released her and examined her from top to bottom. Weird. She wasn't hurt. "How come you're not hurt?"

"Your dad told me about the attack so he suggested I help you from my house. I came here after receiving your message. Thank God, you're fine." She said hugging me again.

Ash cleared his throat behind us. "Right. Shruti this Ash and Ash this is Shruti my best friend." I introduced. Ash smiled and shook hands with her.

"You were right. He is hot." She whispered looking at him from top to bottom. I elbowed her lightly. She frowned at me and massaged her side.

"Listen you take Mr.Mehta to the infirmary. I need to go to Hamla." I said quickly.

"Well good luck finding him. He escaped during the attack. No one knows where he is." Shruti said slinging Ashish' s hand over her shoulder and lead him to the elevator. I raked my fingers through my hair angrily and kicked at someone's dead body.

I was angry. Angry at myself. If I'd have known then I would have stayed here instead of going. Ash put his arm on my shoulder. "Hey don't be angry at yourself. I'm here." He said softly. I turned to face him.

"We need to find dad." I said walking towards our personal elevator. I sent a message to dad. He replied that he was in the infirmary.

I pressed the red button and put my thumb on the scanning machine. "Which floor would you like to go Miss Johnson?" The female voice called.

"To the infirmary please." I answered and the elevator shot up. I was silent just looking at my shoes. I was starting to feel hot in that damn jumpsuit. I snapped my fingers and my clothes changed into a sleeveless white shirt and blue faded jeans. Ash pulled me towards him and kissed me. But it wasn't one of those hot, passionate kisses. It was a comforting kiss. I melted in his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck.

I pulled away and rested my head on his shoulder. "Don't blame yourself for this. I'm here for you. It's not your fault." He said softly, gently stroking my hair.

The doors opened and we sprung apart. I raced out of the elevator, my eyes frantically searching for dad. I found him and went to him. Sid stood up as I entered. I looked at dad and then at him. "What happened?" I asked my face devoid of expression.

"Well as you know they had attacked and dad had told Shruti to help you secretly so she wasn't even here. We were fighting and I heard a scream from upstairs. I ran towards the sound and saw that dad was lying unconscious on the floor. I quickly brought him here and then later when I went to check on Hamla he wasn't in his cell and the guards were dead. He left this." He said handing me a piece of paper.

I opened it and read it aloud.

Dear Samanta Johnson,
It's just to inform you that I have escaped successfully. I wish I could've seen your face before I left. But I'm sure we'll meet soon. This is also a threat. Don't try to find me or else the people you hold dear will not live anymore.

Ciao Adios

Love Hamla.

I crumpled the piece of paper in my fist and clenched my jaw. I had to clear my mind. I had to run or swim or any physical activity. I just couldn't stay here. I needed my space. I ran out of the infirmary taking the stairs two at a time. I couldn't think anything right now.

I knew we are enemies but why was he only against me? What did he mean by 'people you hold dear won't live abymorw'? Was it an empty threat or real? I grunted in frustration. Should I listen to him?

Are you mad? Don't be ridiculous. This is what he wants. Don't give him the advantage. You should do everything in your power to protect your country and your dear ones.

But what if I had to choose  between saving  my loved ones or my country?

Do what your parents have taught you. Watan ke aage kuch nahi.

Hi guys. Sorry for the short chapter. The above translation is 'nothing before the country'. Like you don't place anything above saving your country.
