Wei Wuxian covered the passenger's seat when they reached the car, while Jiang Cheng sat inside the driver's seat. Whenever both of them had to work on a mission together, Wei Wuxian would always claim it so as not to do additional work since he hated driving, it just wasn't his strongest trait.
"Further information?"
Wei Wuxian inquired, flipping through the pages of the case file.
"The victim's name was Lissa Peck, English teacher of Beijing Xicheng Foreign Languages School, childless, damsel, been living in China for more than 15 years."
Jiang Cheng answered morosely, his gaze fixated on the road ahead.
"A foreigner?"
Cheng nodded, "Yes."
"Time of death?"
"The body was found early this morning by a neighbor. The exact time she was killed is unknown."
Wei Wuxian sighed as the assembled information was not sufficient enough. He skipped through the pages of the victim's file, analyzing the given report of her birthplace or possible colleagues. He felt drowsy from the lack of sleep the past days and the papers in front of him did not help with the situation. Jiang Cheng averted his gaze from the road to glance at his one and only friend.
"Did not sleep much?"
Wei Wuxian nodded and leaned his head on the window, yawning loudly. His hand rubbed the sleepiness away, gently picking on the visible rheum in the corner of his eyes.
"All those documents from previous cases are piling up on my desk these days. And I still need to answer the Unit's D file report. It's driving me crazy, Cheng."
"The Sunshot campaign report?"
Wei Wuxian glanced at the passing trees in front of the moving car, their silhouette blurring at the speed the car was reaching. He nodded.
"Yes. Unfortunately, the innocent detective of unit D had to die. I was too late to save him, Cheng."
Jiang Cheng's hand advanced from the steering wheel to Wei Wuxian's shoulder and patted it a few times.
"It was not your fault, Wei Ying. There was nothing you could have done."
"If I was a bit faster, I could have saved him, Wanyin."
"There is no use reminiscing in the past. Just give them the report they want and explain your part of the story."
Wei Wuxian let out another sigh as if getting annoyed just by thinking of the paperwork that is waiting for him when this case will be closed. He focused his gaze upfront, analyzing the region the car turned to.
"How much more till we get there?"
He inquired, restlessly squirming in his seat, tugging on the seat belt that securely held him in place.
"You are always so impatient. We are almost there."
Just as they passed a few expensive-looking houses standing close to the street, the car turned aside. Both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng noticed police cars standing in the driveway, a paramedic vehicle as well as a few unknown cars they never have seen before.
The two detectives stepped out of their tinted-window car as Jiang Cheng locked it with a key, which he pushed inside a gap and turned it clockwise when a click sound resonated out of the metal object.
They walked to a policeman standing close to the red barricade tape painted with a few 'STOP' signs on it. Wei Wuxian stepped closer to the indifferent man, sticking out his badge.
