Nancy is sat in the middle of a classroom with a sign: 'DETENTION' in red letters stuck to the door. A.E is sitting behind her again.
MRS.CROWNER–50–is twig-thin, adorned in a beige, tweed suit, with hair in a bun so tight, it scrapes her face back, giving her a constant look of surprise.
The only sound that breaks the silence is Mrs. Crowner's uneven and unnecessarily harsh typing on her keyboard.
Nancy glares at Mrs. Crowner's fingers.
After a rather long moment of silence, Nancy closes her eyes and exhales a calming breath, jumping in shock when spoken to.
MRS.CROWNER
How did your test go?
NANCY
Could've gone better.
MRS.CROWNER
Then you should have revised harder.
NANCY (V.O)
I know, you patronising bitch.
Pause.
NANCY (V.O CON'T)
I'm sorry about yesterday.
A.E
Took you long enough.
NANCY (V.O)
I didn't want you to distract me...
A.E
Oh, so now it's my fault you didn't apologise sooner?
NANCY (V.O)
That's not what I meant.
A.E
I would've helped if you'd asked. We both know you needed it.
NANCY (V.O)
I've apologised, what more do you want?
Pause.
A.E
You didn't say goodbye to Grandma this morning.
NANCY (V.O)
I hate her.
A.E
You don't mean that.
NANCY (V.O)
She tries to control everything we do! I feel like I'm suffocating!
Pause.
MRS.CROWNER
That's an hour, Nancy. You can go.
