The bathroom door is locked.
A Stanley Knife is lying open on the sink. The blade and handle are speckled with spots of rust.
Nancy's standing alone beside the sink staring at it. She starts to pace before coming back to stare at it again.
The bathroom's constructed of pure white tiles and been cleaned so thoroughly, everything seems to shine. A huge rectangular mirror's above the sink.
A.E appears behind her, without a sound.
A.E
Don't. You. Dare.
NANCY
How did you get in here?
A.E
Locked doors don't apply to me...that's Granddad's Stanley Knife.
Pause.
NANCY
No one will care, even if I do...
A.E
I will! Are you forgetting if you hurt yourself, you hurt me too? Don't give me that crap of you don't want to hurt anyone so you hurt yourself instead–and don't pretend it's a cry for help, when you wouldn't accept any even if it was offered to you.
Nancy doesn't move.
A.E (CON'T)
If you want to be another cliché of the teenage world then go ahead, follow the fashion trend! Because that's exactly what it is...You don't have to think you're alone. That's the entire point of why I'm here...You can talk to me.
Without warning, Nancy grabs hold of the knife and slashes it at A.E's face, emotionless. A.E dodges out the way just in time.
GRANDMA (O.S)
Nancy! Emmerdale's on!
Pause.
A.E
(to Nancy)
What the hell?
Nancy stands there for a few moments, breathing shakily and staring into space. The knife falls from her hand. She unlocks the door and walks into her bedroom, slamming the door.
A.E doesn't follow her.
GRANDMA (O.S)
You don't want to watch it, then?
