1; car ride
the streetlights painted y/n's shadow as she walked back from the convenience store. she had gone late night shopping for snacks and beer, with the addition of some sweets. in her left hand, she held her reusable water bottle and store bag, in her right she texted her friends talking about life.
the small store was only a few blocks from y/n's flat, so the trip was short
as y/n was walking, a rough hand grasped her wrist and pulled her into an alley. a hand was placed over her mouth and y/n was pushed to the hard wall. y/n thrashed around, not being able to see her attackers face as she was being touched and pushed. although she assumed it was a man. y/n shoved the man's head with her free hand and threw a can of soda out of the alley, and into the road.
the soda hit a driving car's windshield and sprayed. the car came to a halt. seeing this, the man let go of y/n and ran off. y/n wiped her mouth with her sleeve and hunched over trying to catch her breath. her shirt was pushed up and her hair was a mess.
seungbae exited the car, which happened to be a police car, and entered the alley. he approached y/n quickly, as she was in distress.
" ma'am are you alright?" he asked and held out his hand.
y/n sighed in relief at the sight of the car and took suengbae's hand. "thank you so much." she bowed. "this man pulled me into the alley and i don't know what could've happened."
seungbae nodded, seeing her disheveled look and the food scattered around. "here let me help you." he bent down and started collecting the snacks and placed them back into the plastic bag. "do you need a ride home?" he asked, handing the escaped bag, water bottle, and cellphone to y/n.
y/n gulped the sighed. "please."
the two drove in silence. y/n clenched her water bottle, ready to swing if the man driving her turned out to be a danger as well.
"well, um, how old are you?" seungbae asked. he mentally cursed himself for asking such a creepy question.
y/n gulped. "i don't usually go telling random men my age so..."
seungbae nodded. "right. my apologies. do you by chance happen to know of man named oh sangwoo?" he asked.
y/n looked down at her feet. "yes we went to university together."
"is there anything you can tell me about him?" seungbae pried.
y/n rubbed her eyes. "well i was friends with a friend of his, but we never really talked. sometimes the friend group all went out and he was there. i didn't get a good energy from him."
"good...energy?" seungbae briefly look his eyes off the road. he looked at the girl, who was now staring out the window. she seemed tense.
"energy, like, he seemed like a good guy and all, everybody liked him, but it didn't really seem that way." y/n shrugged her shoulders and looked at the cop. "i mean everyone has hidden secrets, right? i thought that maybe there was a lot people didn't know about him, because nobody is really that perfect." y/n went back to looking out the window, seeing as the car slowly approached her home.
seungbae gripped the steering wheel. the car came to a stop in front of y/n's house. he unlocked the doors and turned to the girl.
y/n collected her things and opened the car door. "thank you for the ride, officer. and thank you for scaring away that thug. may i ask you your name?"
"no problem. the name is yang seungbae." the officer held out his hand. y/n reached out and shook it.
"goodnight officer seungbae. thank you again." y/n waved. she shut the car door and began walking up her porch steps. seungbae watched the woman approach her house, making sure she got inside safely.
y/n stopped on the steps and rustled through her bag. she grabbed out a chocolate bar and rushed back to the parked car. seungbae, shocked, rolled down his window.
"here, officer." y/n handed the bar through the window. "have a good night." she smiled, and jogged to her door.
seungbae shouted a "thank you!" as she opened the door. y/n waved goodbye and entered her home.
after she closed the door the officer drove off, munching on the candy.
