Chapter 14

"after all, she was the captain of squad 11 before me"

Ichigos eyes widened in shock as the words left the captains mouth 

"she was the squad captain of squad 11?" Ichigo asked in shock and Zaraki grabbed ichigos blade and Ichigo quickly jumped back in shock 

"Ichigo" Unmei yelled and quickly ran over to him and she looked at zaraki then stood in front of Ichigo protectively 

"well what do we have here" Zaraki smirked "who invited the talking mutt to the fight"

Unmei let out a low growl "Come on Kenny, that's enough"

"its been a while since someone besides Ichiru had the courage to call me that" Zaraki smirked "its good to see you after so long... Unmei" 

Ichigo stood still as he watched the two people in front of him carry out the conversation but he couldn't tell if they were friends or if they were enemies and he still couldn't get over the fact that she was the captain of squad 11 

"why didn't you tell me that you were the captain," Ichigo asks her and she turns towards him

"sorry, i didn't realize that i had to tell you everything about me" she replied sarcastically 

"well i wanted to fight it out with Ichigo but now that your here i guess i changed my mind" Zaraki responds with a smirk but then he frowns "but then again, if i hurt you, then i would have quite a few very angry captains to deal with"

"Not like you would be able to defeat me anyway" Unmei replied with a playful smirk "that's already been proven a number of times"

"here's the thing Kenny, Ichigo and i really need to go so if we could like, just skip this little thingy right here, that would be very great' unmei says

"Unmei, its ok. Im gonna beat this guy, and i don't want you to interfere" Ichigo states 

"Ichgio, kenpachi zaraki is a lot different to the other guys you have fought" Unmei says softly and turns to him with sympathy "you don't have to do this ok"

"Stand back Unmei, I'm going to protect you and I'm going to save rukia, no mater what" Ichigo states and Unmei looks at him in shock but then nods her head and stands back from them

"please Unmei... don't intervene. I'm gonna be ok" Ichigo says and smiles softly at her and then she flash steps up next to yochiru to watch the fight.

"So MeiMei, how have you been going, its been a long time since i have seen you" Yachiru says as she smiles over at unmei and she reaches over to pat the top of Unmeis fur

Unmei chuckles at the nickname and then lays down and rests her head in Yachirus lap "its been alright i guess, i miss everyone from here and i would rather be here than in the world of the living but i want to stay with my dad and i enjoy protecting people from the hollows. I haven't been able to train much but sometimes i just use my abilities for fun"

"do you think Ichigo will be able to cut Kenny" Yachiro asks Unmei and Unmei looks down at the two that were fighting and it was obvious that Ichigo was struggling but unmei still had faith in the boy

"you bet he will" Unmei says confidently "i would put my life in his hands, i trust him and i believe that after time, he will be one of the strongest soul reapers to ever exhist"

"Even stronger than you" Yachiro asks in confusion

"Even stronger than me," Unmei replies

"Have you talked to snow boy yet?" Yachiro asks and Unmei frowns but then smiles again

"Yeah i talked to him, it was only a few words and he didn't even know that it was me" Unmei sighs "he's still just as amazing as ever though, he still looks grumpy"

"he didn't look grumpy when he was with you" Yachiro states and keeps her eyes on the fight that was happening below them "ever since you left he has been a lot more sad and he doesn't really talk to people unless he has too"

"you know Chiro, for someone so young, you are so much more aware of things than people who are older and then what you let on" Unmei says and begins to get worried as she sees the wounds that are covering ichigos body

"ICHIGO!" Unmei screams out as she sees Kenpachis Zanpukto go right through Ichigos zanpukto and into his chest

she jumps down and runs over to him but he doesn't move. She looks up at Zaraki and doesn't say anything as he just stands there and watches as tears begin to come out of her eyes

"This is all my fault. NO, NO Ichigo come on open your eyes. Im sorry" Unmei says quickly and shakes his body as her body begins to shake

"is that really all that you could do?" zaraki asks Ichigo and turns around and begins to walk away.

Unmei stands up and gets ready to attack Zaraki but she cant bring herself to do it as she remembers all the memories she had of them training and fighting together, chasing and eating together. they weren't just acquaintances or partners, they were friends.

"Ichigo i need you to wake up ok" Unmei said in a shaky voice and her head bows down towards the ground as she began to cry. She couldn't believe that he was gone and it was all her fault. she shouldn't have let him fight zaraki and even though she wanted to help him, as the ex squad 11 captain, she knew that she couldn't join into their fight

She was sick of losing the people that she cared about
