Chapter Five

Flashback (two years ago)

"Sky, it's nothing, okay? It's nothing you need to worry about."

"Nothing I need to worry about?! You didn't come home for three weeks!"

"Well I'm here now aren't I!"

"Yeah, just after all hell broke loose in this house! Me and Hayes needed our brother. We needed you and like always, you disappeared!"

I watched him as he took off his damp sweater before removing his soaking wet boots. The weather was terrible, and so was my mood. He smelled of drugs. Weed. I looked at his bloodshot eyes as he avoided what I was saying. He wasn't going to do this again. Not this time. I needed an explanation.

He turned to go upstairs to his room but I stopped him.

"We waited, Levi."

He didn't turn, instead I talked to the back of his head. His body was tense and so were his hands as they clenched the stair railing.

"We were all waiting on you. And you never came."

He stood without a word for a few seconds and then turned to face me. With his hands, he cupped both my cheeks and kissed my forehead. My eyes shut as a tear rolled down my cheek. He wiped it and looked me in the eye.

"I'm here. And I will stay here. I promise."

He embraced me and I hugged him back even though I knew that was a fake promise. A promise that was going to be broken too many times to count. But I hugged him, and just like that - he was forgiven.

"Wake up, Sky!"

I opened my eyes and became aware of my surroundings. Hayes was hovering above me with a glass of water in his hand as he splashed some on my face, behind him two very concerned people.

"Huh," I said, wondering how I'd ended up falling asleep. "What happened?"

"Oh thank God you're okay! You just passed out!" Cara screamed as Hayes and Cameron acknowledged her piercing scream and flinched.

I sat up and rubbed my temples as all three of them sat on the sofa opposite me. They were worried and it was pretty evident on their facial expressions so I reassured them I was fine with a nod of my head.

"I'm okay, I just didn't get much sleep last night."

Cameron frowned. "You should sleep."

"No shit," Cara replied to him and gave him a look.

It reminded me of our previous conversation about how everyone knew Cameron but as I was about to bring it up, Hayes dragged me towards the door.

"What are you-"

"You need some rest."

"What, but- No, you were about to tell me about Cameron and how-"

"Sky," Hayes' firm tone made me shut my mouth as I reluctantly walked away, Cara leading me to my room.
