2: Welcome

Amira always thought Ilvermorny sorting was more practical than Hogwarts sorting. At Ilvermorny four statues react if they want a student in their house. What Amira thought was most interesting was if more than one statue wanted a student the student could choose what house they wanted out of the statues that picked them. Julián had been chosen by both Thunderbird and Pukwudgie when he was being sorted.

The Ilvermorny Headmaster Agilbert Fontaine stepped out of the line of teachers that was against the back room of the sorting hall. "Students welcome to another year at Ilvermorny. First years you are now going to be sorted into your houses. When I call your name stand on the Gordian Knot and a house statue will choose you. Now I will briefly explain the houses: Wampus house represents the body and is the house of warriors, Thunderbird house represents spirit and is the house for adventurers, Pukwudgie represents the heart and is the house for healers, and finally, Horned Serpent represents the mind and is the house for scholars. After you join a house please exit through this hallway behind me to get your wand." 

The sorting ceremony began as the first new student stepped onto the Gordian Knot. Amira watched from an observation deck with the other students as about 35 new students joined Thunderbird and walked into the hall of wants to get their first wand. 

Amira was a Resident Advisor (similar to a Prefect) for her house, so she would be responsible for one-third of the first year girls for the entire year.

After the ceremony, Amira went to the Hall of Wands instead of up to the common rooms with most of the other students because she was a Resident Advisor. A Resident Advisor was similar to a Hogwarts Prefect. Amira would be responsible for six first year girls for the entire year. Amira walked with Kiko because she was House President for Pukwudgie. A House President is similar to Hogwarts Head Boy or Head Girl, but the House Presidents are elected by the students, and there are one President and one Vice President for each house. Lenna was in the Hall of Wands when Kiko and Amira arrived because she was a Resident Advisor for Horned Serpent. The Resident Advisors and House Presidents make up Ilvermorny Leadership, which is basically student government. 

Katherine, the Thunderbird House President, gave each Thunderbird Resident Advisor a list of first years they would be in charge of. 

"Elizabeth Bajar?" Amira called. "Alana Burgess? Katerina Cruz?" Three eleven-year-old girls came over to her. "Lillian Davies, Jackie Everton, and Athena Gheraldi?." Three more girls came over. 

"Hi I'm Amira Prayoga and I'll be your Resident Advisor this year," Amira said. "That means I will be in charge of making sure you all get to class on time and you know all the school rules and such. "So you girls are in Thunderbird House which is, as you know, the house for adventurers. Our house leads camping and hiking trips on the weekends. We also plan the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance where it is a tradition for the girls to ask the guys." Many of the girls perked up at this. "Once a quarter we have a house sleepover in the common room where most people sleep in hammocks. Thunderbirds also go exploring a lot in the Dark Forest and in the tunnels under the school."

Many of the girls perked up at this.

"There are tunnels under the school?" Katerina asked.

"Well yeah, but I'm not supposed to tell you that."

"We won't say anything," Alana promised. 

Amira proceeded to tell the girls all about the school as they headed up to Thunderbird Tower. Finally, Amira got to the end of her checklist of things to tell the first years. "Next Sunday is the Beginning of the School Year Barbecue," she said. "All the houses get together and have a barbecue and compete in games. It's a way for the first years to all get to know each other. All right, I think that's it, do you guys have any questions?"
