I gasp awake, feeling almost as though I have been underwater.

"You're awake!" a voice shouts, far too loudly. Hands grasp my arms and as I pry open my eyes, I see Jez and DeNyle standing over me.

"Thank God," Jez groans and falls back into her chair. "I thought we would be disqualified because of you."

"Did I die?" I whisper.

"No," Jez answers softly. "Rocky pried Birch off you after you gave up and he didn't let go."

"Yeah, and then he whooped a guy's ass in his fight," DeNyle exclaims. "We made it to round two."

"I'm sorry I lost," I whimper and close my eyes. "I should have done better."

"His first blow took a lot out of you," DeNyle sighs and squeezes my hand. "Everyone keeps talking about how amazing you were."

"Really?"

"Yeah. The whole stadium is abuzz," he grins. "There's two hundred and fifty teams left. Do you think you'll be alright to fight later? They started the team battles this morning."

"It's already tomorrow?" I groan and try to sit up but my head throbs.

"Don't move too much yet," DeNyle commands and helps me back down onto my pillow. "Fletcher gave you a potion and you'll feel hungover for a bit, but she said you would be better in an hour or so."

"Fletcher was here?" I glance toward Rocky, who is standing silently in the corner of the room.

"She saw your fight and figured you could use a pick me up," DeNyle brushes a finger across my cheek. "Birch really roughed you up. You can go back to sleep if you want. We will wake you up in an hour."

"Alright," I nod my head and close my eyes again.
