I couldn't deny that they were undoubtedly very talented. and it annoyed me. I let the people around me push me from side to side as I watched in awe.

Ashton was at the back behind a drum set, topless. I tried not to stare, but it was hard. did he work out now?

I could see Hannah at the front, jumping around and screaming like there was no tomorrow. it made me smile seeing her so happy.

it amazed me I managed to survive an hour of them playing without wanting to throw myself off a cliff out of despair. all these girls around me screaming Ashton's name made my stomach twist and turn, and I had to take a few feel breaths to keep myself from being sick. I fucking missed him. it hurt like hell that he'd left me. abandoned me, you could say. we'd been through so much and been friends for so long. but he'd made impossible promises he couldn't keep.

when they finished, Hannah waded her way towards me, sweaty faced and grinning like the Cheshire Cat. "BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!" she shouted.

⠀"wow, turn the volume down," I said, wincing.

⠀"SORRY, MY EARS HAVE GONE ALL FUNNY FROM THE LOUD MUSIC."

⠀"still shouting!" I sang, laughing and patting her back, leading her out of the venue.

⠀"did you see how hot Luke was?" she fawned as we sat in Pizza Hut. I nodded absently, stuffing my face with the most satisfyingly good pizza.

⠀"I wish I could relive it." she sighed, staring down at her phone, undoubtedly tweeting about the concert.

⠀"can we go now?" i asked, finishing off my pizza.

⠀"sure, sure."

even in the car, Hannah was playing more 5 Seconds of Summer songs, but this time only mouthing along to them as her throat was apparently killing.

⠀"thanks for coming," she managed, her voice sounding hoarse. "it means a lot."

⠀"anything for you." I smiled.

it felt so good to be back in the comfort of my room, back in my bed, back in peace and quiet. thoughts of Ashton behind that drum set tonight plagued my memory. how passionately he'd played. how much he'd looked like he was having fun. he doesn't need you, went around and around in my mind. and it was true.

I love Shrek more than life tbh I'm watching it for the first time in years now and it's so funny and the soundtrack is on point
