I love you 😘!.

He didn't call. Of course he wouldn't, he had played her feelings and she would repay him in his coins. Lara sat rigidly, every nerve on edge as she drove to her parents house, she didn't know if she was fuming because he didn't call for lunch or if she was anxious about meeting her mum. She had laid off her driver and decided to drive herself to see her and there's no turning back now. Ever since her Dad died 3 months ago, she had feared visiting the house for memories that would result to an outburst she had long bottled up. She didn't even visit during preparations for her wedding though Chris had insisted.

"Come and visit your mother". Her mum had pleaded.

But Lara kept giving excuses until she realized how important it was for her to visit especially since her mum was throwing a party.

"Lara I can't wait to see you". Her mum had said when she had told her she was coming.

Money, was no problem to the Ajayis' but the loss of a father and a husband was. Lara knew within her, that her mum needed her more than anything and she didn't know how to face her mum after 3 months, she secretly wished Chris had come with her. Quit thinking about him_she told herself gripping hard on the steering wheel.

Her poshe car pulled into her parents garage and she stepped out with her handbag shutting the door with her remote. She walked into the late afternoon sun pulling her trolley she had retrieved from the trunk through the interlocked grounds. She dragged her trolley into the house through marble statues and plastic flowers. She hated plastic flowers so she would order fresh ones when she was settled. The house felt empty and she could feel tears stinging behind her eyes, the house looked the same.

"Good afternoon Madam". A maid greeted her with a bow.

Lara smiled gratefully "Where's my mum?"

"Your mum's upstairs".

The maid took her trolley and escorted Lara though the curved flight of stairs. Lara let out a shrill of excitement, she was delighted as she reached her room. She pushed the door open and basked in the scent of her room, everything was the same way she had left them. The floors looked polished, and the table top was void from dust, She smiled widely as she ran to her window looking over to the blue swimming pool below her window.

"Do you need anything?". The maid asked.

Lara turned to her "I'm fine".

The maid nodded and left her to herself. Lara raced to the bed and flopped heavily on it. She was filled with nostalgia as memories of the house came flooding to her but was interrupted by a knock.

"Come in".

The door was pushed open and her mum walked in with a smile on her face.

"Mummy!". Lara ran and embraced her tightly taking in her lavender scent, she noticed her mum had lost weight. She looked up to her eyes and saw how pale looking she was.

"Mummy, Bawo lowa?"

"I'm fine" Tears brimmed her eyes as she held Lara's hands "I'm so happy you came".

Lara nodded guiltily and pressed herself to her mum in a hug "I'm happy I came too".

"You didn't come with Chris?"

"He had things to handle".

Her mum smiled "He's really doing a great job taking care of you" She paused and sniffled "I hate to say this, but your dad was right about him".

Lara nodded and forced out a smile "Is there any food?".

"You still eat a lot?".

Lara chuckled "I still do".

With still no word from Chris, Lara got ready for the evening. The preparations for the party were impeccable and she was exhausted as she had been involved with the preparations. To keep herself occupied, she took so long working on her appearance more than she ever did. She untied her braids and made it into a French plait and had an intricate make up. She grimaced at the reflection, she never did wanted to look good. Her long black scoop down gown looked perfect on her. Lara stole surreptitious glances at her phone probably still expecting Chris to call.
She leapt from her dressing table when her phone rang. At last!. She reached for her phone and glanced at the caller ID. Her face fell in total disappointment. Brenda!.

"Hun!" Brenda's voice yelled.

"How are you?"

"I'm  fine, how's Chris?".

"He's fine, Are you coming for the party?".

"I'm downstairs already".

"I'm coming down immediately".

Too impatient, Lara hurried down the stairs as fast as she could in her heels. She met Brenda in the living room and they both hugged excitedly. Brenda had been her best friend since her childhood and they both were inseparable.

"Sammy!!!". Lara greeted excited as she hugged her best friend's husband. "How are you doing?".

"I'm very well, Chris is really doing a great work on you". Sam said with a chuckle.

"Why do you guys keep saying that?,  I mean my mum just said that, now you're saying the same thing".

"Cause it's true, let me leave you girls to your talk". He pecked Brenda lightly on her lips making her blush slightly and walked off to greet the older people.

Lara wriggled her eyebrows at her "mmm-hmm"

Brenda blushed "Stop it!". She looked around her "Where's Chris?".

"We didn't come together" Lara replied dabbing her right cheek with her handkerchief.

Brenda heaved a sigh and pulled a confused looking Lara to a sofa.
"I have news for you" She began as they sat comfortably in the sofa.

Lara raised a brow "What's the news?".

"I'm pregnant". Brenda said with glee.

"Oh my God!, Eku ori ire, I'm so happy for you, how old is it?".

"Three weeks, we just found out yesterday". Brenda replied rubbing her flat belly.

Lara pulled her to a hug "I'm the Godmother, just so you know".
