"No one's looking now, you can drop the act".

Of course she had to ruin the mood, he shouldn't have let his guard down when he was around her. Hell!, Who was he kidding?, He loved her fake display of affection and that little kiss she gave his cheek, he was going to cherish it.

"I'm so sorry about lunch". He began, watching her face for some reaction; seeing none he continued "I should have called but I was stuck in a meeting".

"That's okay, it's not like I was expecting you or something". Lara replied staring into space.

He chuckled "Can you look at me and say that?".

She rolled her eyes and stared at him "I'm doing that now".

"If you weren't expecting a lunch with me, so why am I apologising?".

She facepalmed "Cause.... You failed a promise".

"I didn't think you'd be mad".

"I'm not mad". She yelled attracting a few people who turned back to whatever they were doing.

He laughed when she groaned loudly "You're so cute when you're mad".

"Don't call me cute and I'm not mad, this...".

Gesturing to her face "Is me being normal".

Chris bit back his laughter, she was truly beautiful and he knew she had expected him; no matter how she tried to deny it. Every movement she made didn't go unnoticed by him which made him realise he was staring at her: She smoothened her hair and ran her tongue over her lower lip while she checked something in her purse making him realise how badly he wanted a taste of her lips; where did that thought come from?.

A maid came to them with platters and began setting them on their table.

"Have you seen my mum?". Lara asked as the maid left.

He shook his head "I haven't".

"Oh!". She sat up looking over his shoulder "Speak of the devil".

Just on cue, Mrs. Ajayi wrapped her hands around him.
"I was looking everywhere for you, I thought you wouldn't make it".

"Ek'ale ma". He made to prostate but she stopped him immediately.

"How are you doing, my son?".

He pulled Lara to his side, his arms wrapped around her waist "I'm fine ma, your daughter is doing a great job taking care of me".

Lara rolled her eyes at his actions and smiled at her mum.

Her mum looked younger in her shimmering red gown; she looked refreshed as though the party was a reason. She knew her mum was tired already from greeting guests; but it was her party and her guests.

Lara zoned out from the conversation between her mum and Chris and turned to the older couple who were just stepping in.

The man looked like he belonged to the newspapers and his wife looked very young in her black body fitting gown that had a slit to her mid thigh.

"Wait mummy, isn't that The minister of Agriculture; Mr. Okonji?".

Her mum chuckled and waved the couple over "I invited all the ministers, only twenty five could come".

Chris eyes widened "Twenty five of them are here now?".

Before her mum could give a response, the couple approached them. Her mum's face split into a wide smile.
"Good evening Honorable"

"Ah!, My lady, you should be given an award for this wonderful party". The man said loudly much to Lara's disdain.

Her mum laughed fakely. The business of the elites included being fake and she, Omolara could discern fakeness.
"You and your flattery, meet my daughter and her husband".

The man licked his lower lips in lust "You have a very beautiful daughter".

The woman beside looked rilled up and like she had a better place to be than to be in the arms of a man her father's age. The woman gave Lara glares as Mr. Okonji held up her hand.

"Honourable, she's my wife". Chris said gritting his teeth in annoyance.

Her mum chirped in "Honourable, let me introduce you to my other guests".

He nodded and followed her with his plus one trailing behind him.

Lara let out a sigh"Today has been a hell of a day".

"Well you can't blame the men, they want a taste of a beautiful lady".

She blushed "You think I'm beautiful?".

He shrugged "You're not ugly either".

Sooo, what do you think??
