Rei POV--

I awoke to silence. Complete and utter silence. No humming of the engine, no grumpy whirs from the astromech droid. I swung my legs over the edge of the mattress, rubbing my eyes.

"Ezra?" I called, walking across the room and opening the door with a flick of my wrist. I peeked into the hall, nothing. I ran to the cockpit, panic rising in my chest. Nobody there. I looked out the window, my blue eyes scanning the grassy fields of Lothal. I watched in awe as Hera ran around a rock, an Imperial Walker firing at her. An explosion rocked the ship as I slid into the pilot's seat. My training with Kanan in a VCX-100 light freighter came back to me.

My fingers danced over the buttons before I gripped the controls, bringing the modified version of what I trained in off the ground. (I don't know if that makes sense. Just to clarify, The Ghost is a modified VCX-100 light frieghter.) I opened the cargo door and felt the ship dip with sudden weight dropping onto the metal. I pulled the controls up and The Ghost rocketed towards the atmosphere. The VCX-100 shuddered as the cargo door closed and I slumped back into the pilot's seat, letting out a breath of air I didn't know I was holding. Hera ran into the cockpit. I turned around.

"We need to jump to Tatooine." She slid into the co-pilot's seat. I nodded and tapped in the coordinates, stumbling only once. The stars slid into streaks and I stood up, ready to go to my room.

"Sorry about stealing the controls Hera." I said looking at my feet. I felt a soft hand on my shoulder and I looked up.

"No, I'm sorry for not being there. You did good though." She smiled and suddenly I didn't feel so bad. She rubbed her shoulder and I saw charred cloth. I reached forward and brushed it with my fingertips. Hera winced.

"Did you get shot?" After I said that, I mentally facepalmed. Well no DUH she got shot. Come on Skywalker, get with the program. I thought. Hera nodded. Her jumpsuit was getting stained red. I could smell the iron. The next second, Hera was laying in my arms, out cold.

"KANAN!" I roared. I heard footsteps thumping on the hollow floor, Kanan knew I only yelled that loud when I was angry or when something was wrong.

"What??" He asked, breathing hard. Then he saw Hera. "Get her to the imfirmary!" Kanan scooped Hera out of my arms and ran down the hall, I followed. We turned a corner and we finally gort to a starile white room. Kanan laid Hera on the bed while I found the activation button for the medic-droid. A hologram fizzled to life from the floor.

"Scan her." I ordered the droid-holo, pointing to Hera. A holo-laser swooped over her body and the nurse-droid looked up.

"The shot went through her shoulder instead of just hitting it. Its bad." Kanan touched the cloth around Hera's wound. I stepped up and pushed Kanan back. I took out a knife and cut her sleeve off.

Charred skin surrounded a hole about the size of my thumb. Dried blood surrounded the hole and new blood poured out onto her green skin. Kanan looked at it with horror in his eyes.

"I need to operate." When Kanan didn't move, I added, "Now." He hurried out of the room, shooting one last worried glance back at me.

The first thing that I did was examine the extent of the wound; I soon found out that it was deep. It burned a hole through her shoulder and burned the other side too. I gently brushed the wound with disinfectant and cut the worst patches of skin off her.

My fingers glowed red as I placed the bloody scalpel to the side. My blue eyes surveyed the damage left. There was still some charred parts, but the red was everywhere.

After that, I worked quickly. I put slave of both sides of her shoulder and wrapped it in cloth. The white was quickly turned red. I put pressure on it;soon the bleeding stopped. I re-wrapped it  soon after.

I looked down at my hands; they were red. I walked with tired feet over to the refresher. The clean water turned maroon when it touched my hands. I closed my eyes and let the hot liquid run over my skin. After I washed my hands, I walked back over to Hera. I expected to see her bright green eyes looking at me, besides if she wasn't up now, she might not ever get up.My boots clicked on the tile as I approached her bedside.

She was still out.

"Oh no. No, no, no, no, no no!!" I checked her vital signs. Her heart was still beating, but it was getting weaker. I picked up my comm.

"Kanan. Get over here. Now." I hooked it back onto my belt and checked the vitals again. The flashing red line worried me. The door flew open and in a flash, Kanan was at Hera's bed.

"Whats wrong?" He asked, looking me in the eye with scary seriousness.

"I need you to talk to her. She's not waking up, and her heartbeat is getting slower. Even it she can't hear you, she needs the help." Tears formed in my eyes by the last sentence. Kanan nodded, I could tell, he coudn't trust his voice. I walked out of the room and made my way to the cockpit. Chopper grunted and rolled away. Somebody sat in the seat next to me. I looked up. It was Sabine. She put her hand on my shoulder.

"Are you ok?" She asked, the concern evident in her voice.

"I'm fine, but Hera isn't." The shocked expression on her face said everything. "She got shot in the shoulder. I did what I could but s-she isn't waki-ing up!" My voice cracked and I broke into sobs.

3rd Person POV--

Ezra approached the door to the cockpit, expecting to see Hera happily at the controls. Instead, he saw a crying Rei. Sabine reached forward and Rei fell into her arms, her shoulders shaking. A voice came to him.

"We will each be be challenged in our faith."
