Gran-Gran woke me up before my siblings and Aang. Pouting at being up so early I looked to her and complained.
"But Gran-Gran the sun is just barely peeking over the horizon. Can't I sleep in a little longer?"
"No darling. You have chores. We need your waterbending to catch some fish and help repair the houses. Katara will do the laundry later."
I'm not a morning person whatsoever so I'm grumbling and pouting while marching over to the little stream of water we use to travel out to more open waters to fish. I hop into a canoe with one of the older ladies of the village named Tala. We were making small talk the whole morning and by the time we got back with the fish everyone was already awake.
"I see your sister introduced that young bald boy already. Oh look! He's playing with the kids!"
I looked over and cooed at how the kids just love him and how they played with him. It was an adorable sight.
"You like him don't you?"
Nodding along to what she was saying just to be polite I- 'wait what?!'
"Tala I just met him! Sure I think he's cute but that's because he's the only other male around my age who isn't family!"
She put her hand on my shoulder and chuckled at me.
"Darling, it doesn't take much to se that you two already care about each other. You have an instant connection that will only grow."
"Yeah okay Tala, lets just go clean and cook the fish."
That's how I spent the rest of my morning. I heard a loud voice yell,
"PENGUINNN!!!!" 'Ah so Aang saw the penguins.'
As soon as I finished my thoughts he used his air bending skills to speed to where the penguin waddled off to. Sokka and Katara walked over with a weird look on each of their faces. Sokka's looked more annoyed than anything while Katara had her famous 'I have hope' face on.
"Aang doesn't know about the war. Can you believe this kid? Like what rock did he grow up under?" Sokka said in disbelief. Whereas I'm not so surprised seeing as my suspicions are coming together.
"Don't be rude Sokka! He must've been there for over 100 years! That's the only way he wouldn't know about the Fire Nation and war."
"Katara can you do me a huge favor and go talk to him? I would but Gran-Gran won't let me leave till I'm done with chores."
"Yeah no problem. But I am going to need some fish."
"What why?" I looked at her confused, what does she need fish for?
"I think he's trying to catch a penguin right now and you can't really do that without fish right?" 'Well I'm dumb for not realizing that.'
"Thank you Katara, ask him if he can teach us waterbending too!" I shouted at her retreating figure. At the last part Katara threw up a thumbs up so I knew she heard me.
I was going to say something to Sokka, but seeing as he's across the village I shrug it off. I have...chores...to do. Fun.
The rest of the time Katara and Aang were gone I taught the youngest children how to read and write seeing as all the other women were gathering supplies and Sokka was attempting to train the young group boys to become warriors. 'As if a 6 year old could fight a fire bender.'
All of a sudden we see a flare shoot up from the sky? 'Oh no. Katara and Aang are over there...' the villages waits anxiously for people to arrive. The Fire Nation or my sister and new friend, we don't know. I see two figures running towards the village. I let out a sigh of relief while Sokka is silently seething. Once they get close enough the children cheer that Aang is back. Sokka on the other hand has a different agenda.
