The next day went by very fast. I started off by calling Sam and telling her that she won't see me for a while. Of course she asked why and I told her it was complicated. Once we said our goodbyes, I went to my room. I brushed my long brown hair and put my brush back in my bag. Then I put on a pair of black yoga pants and a purple sweater. Once I was ready, I grabbed my bag and I walked to the living room. I sat down on the couch and checked the time. Noon. Mom said she'd be home at three. So I have two hours to my self. I turned on the tv and turned on American Horror Story. Halfway through the episode, I realized it was season two...with the asylum. I quickly turned it to MTV.

The two hours went by fast. Mom walked in the door around 3:15. She was holding a Target bag.

"Hey Addy, I got you some stuff," mom smiled, closing the doors with her foot.
I muted the TV and said, "Like what?"

Mom walked over to me and sat next to me. She handed me the bag. I pulled out a red hoodie, a pair of black fuzzy socks, and a framed picture of me and Ben at my tenth birthday party.

"Mom...why did you do this?" I asked, sniffling.

"It's three of your favorite things. Red, black socks, and Ben. I figured you'd want something nice while your away," mom said, smiling slightly.

I threw my arms around her neck. She wrapped her arms around me and we sighed at the same time. I pulled away and walked over to my bag. Then I put my things in and surrounded the frame of Ben with clothes.

"So, we have about a half hour left. What do you wanna do?" mom asked.
"...eat. I want to eat," I smiled.

I stood up and walked to the kitchen. Then I made mac-n-cheese and made chocolate milk. When the Mac-n-cheese was ready, I walked back to the living room. Not even ten minutes later, it was gone.

"You always loved your Mac-n-cheese," mom laughed.

I smiled and washed out my glass and bowl. While I was cleaning them, the door bell rang. Mom opened the door and my heart stopped.

"Afternoon. Are you Ms. Parks?" a man asked.
"This is she...who are you?" mom asked.
"I'm from the Institution, I'm here to pick up Adeline Parks," he said.

I turned off the water and walked over to them. The guy was wearing a blue suit and glasses. His hair was slicked back and wasn't smiling.

"Adeline?" he asked.
"It's not four..." I mumbled.
"I know...we uh...came early," he said slowly.
I blinked.
"Get your things, it's time to go," the man said gently.

I walked over to my bag and picked it up. Then I walked back to mom and the man. Mom started crying. I hugged her and she said she loved me.

"It's time to go, Adeline," the man said.
"Love you too, mom," I said quietly.

She let me go and I walked outside with the man. He led me to a large grey van. Once we reached the van, he opened the door. There were three other people in the van. Two boys and a girl.

"Sit next to Felix," the man said.

The one boy with blond hair looked up. He was sitting alone. I climbed into the van and sat next to him. The man outside put my bag in the front with the others. He shut the door and then climbed in.
I looked out the window and watched as I drove away from my house. Mom was still standing in the doorway. Watching me go. She was full on sobbing now.

"So what're you in for?" Felix asked me.
"Umm...seeing things...and hearing them..." I said warily.
"Wow...that's rough...I hear voices. Screams sometimes," Felix replied.
"That seems worse," I said, running my hand through my hair.
"Nah, I think you win. You see things AND hear them," Felix smiled a little.
"Shut up, Felix," the girl behind me said.

Felix slowly turned around and looked at her. She was grinning and hold the guys hand she was sitting next to. Felix winked at them and she stuck out her tongue.

"No PDA, Grace," Felix teased.
"Ya know what Felix, I. Don't. Care," Grace smirked.
Felix laughed and turned back to me, "That's Grace, she sees dead people. And that's Alec, he thinks to much," Felix said, pointing to them.
"What do you mean he thinks to much?" I asked, looking back at the black haired boy.
"He thinks more than people should. Alec can think about things before they actually happen," Felix said.
"So we're all a bunch of freaks then?" I asked.
"...Basically," Felix smiled.
"Sweet," I grinned.
