Lauren

“Hey Lisa, can you drive me over to Chris’s house? I wanna see if he needs help with anything before the funeral.” I asked her when she woke up.

“Umm yeah sure, just let me get dressed.” Lisa said, rolling out of bed. I walked over to the closet and pulled out a black dress and went to the bathroom. I was fixing my hair when Lisa walked in.

“Here, let me help you with that.” She said, gently moving my hands away from my hair and grabbing a brush. Something seemed off about her today.

“So how was your “date” with Chris last night?” I asked her, trying to avoid an awkward silence.

“It was alright, he got me a moose.” Lisa said, sighing.

“Oh, thats sweet.”
“Yeah, he said he saw all the moose on my bed and yeah…” Lisa said, a small ghost of a smile on her face. After that, it was silent as she brushed my hair.

“You want it up or down?” She asked me.

“Down.” I said. Lisa finished up and put down the brush.

“There, now put on the dress. I’ll be downstairs.” Lisa said, walking out of the bathroom. I took off my pajamas and threw them on the floor before picking up the dress and sliding it on. I put on a little makeup before walking downstairs. Lisa was waiting for me by the door.

Lisa

“So where does he live?” I asked Lauren after we had gotten in the car. Lauren pulled out her phone and scrolled through her text before showing me an address.

“Oh, thats not far from here.” I said.

“Yeah,” She replied. We drove there without saying a word to each other. Lauren looked at me curiously, probably wondering why I wasn’t talking. When we got to Chris’s house we both climbed  out of the car and walked to the door. Lauren pulled out her key and let herself in.

“Shouldn’t we knock?” I asked her curiously.

“I think he gave me the key so I wouldn’t have to?” Lauren said.

“Ok?” I said, shrugging and following her in.

“Chris?” She called out once we were inside.

“In the bedroom!” We heard him call back after a second. Lauren led the way and soon we were standing by the door to what I assumed was his bedroom. We opened the door and saw Chris in slacks and a white t-shirt.

“Hey Lauren. Oh hey Lisa.” Chris said, walking up to Lauren and hugging her.

“Did you tell her?” He mouthed to me as he hugged her. I shook my head. He let her go and gave me a hug. I felt my heart start to race a little. Ugh stupid heart.

“You two look beautiful.” Chris said, giving the two of us a smile.

“Thanks” Me and Lauren said.

“So not that I don’t enjoy seeing you two, but what are you doing here so early in the morning? I thought we weren’t seeing each other until the funeral?” Chris asked.

“I wanted to see if you needed help with anything.” Lauren said sweetly, plopping herself down on the bed.

“Thanks, but I should be good. You’re more than welcome to stay if you want though.” He replied.

“Umm I should really go back to the house and wait for the rest of the girls to get ready. I’ll see you two there?” I said, feeling a little awkward standing there.
