Amy

“Thank you guys again for lunch, it was really fun” I said as we threw away our trash.

“Oh it was no problem at all Ms. Amy” Elijah said, tipping an imaginary hat in my direction.

“Yeah don’t mention it,” Chris said, smiling at both of us.

“We really need to go before the rest of our sisters send out a search party.” Lauren said jokingly.

“Ok,” Chris said a little sadly, “Hopefully I’ll run into you again? Maybe a little less literally next time?”

“Oh definitely, you still need to show me those paintings remember?” Lauren said, smiling and laughing, “So umm, give me your phone?”

“Why do you want my phone?” Chris asked confused.

“Chris, man, when a cute girl, especially a girl as beautiful as her, asks for your phone; you give her your phone.” Elijah said jokingly, reaching into Chris’s jacket pocket and pulling out his phone before handing it to Lauren.

“Yeah, you should really listen to your friend,” I said, moving closer to Lauren so I could see what she was doing.

“Aaaaand here you go.” Lauren said happily a moment later, handing Chris back his phone. “In case you want that second date sometime.” Lauren said, smiling at him innocently.

“Ok, we really should be going,” I said, interrupting the love fest.

“I’ll see you around,” Chris said to Lauren, extending a hand towards her. Lauren grabbed it and pulled him in for a hug. “Oh, let me take a quick picture of you?” Chris asked her as they separated. Lauren took a step back and smiled as Chris took a picture. “Beautiful,” He said, causing her to blush.

“It was nice meeting you Amy,” Elijah said after we were done watching them.

“Thanks, it was nice meeting you too. You can hug me too by the way, if you want.” I said with a smile. Elijah just smiled and pulled me in for a tight hug before letting go.

“So we’ll see you two around?” Elijah asked. I smiled and nodded my head before we went our separate ways.

Chris

“Ok, you can’t tell me that that girl didn’t look EXACTLY like Melanie.” Elijah said as soon as the girls had left.

“Ok, fine, yes she looks like Melanie. But those two couldn’t be anymore different.” I said adamantly.

“Yeah, cause Melanie was perfect the first time you met her.” Elijah said.

“Yeah, Melanie had her flaws, yeah Melanie hurt me, but Lauren? She’s different than Melanie.” I replied.

“How? You barely know her.” Elijah said in return.

“I know she’s incapable of lying. Everything she told us earlier, that was a hundred percent her. She is not Melanie.”

“Ok, fine man. For your sake, I hope you’re right, cause if she’s anything like her, in any way, things are gonna be the same as they were last time.” Elijah said, giving up on arguing.

“Yeah, well hopefully Lauren won’t cheat on me with god knows how many guys, get drunk, and then drive herself off a bridge.” I said bitterly.

“God I hope so,” Elijah said as we exited the mall.

Lauren

“Lauren, so do we need to talk about this?” Amy asked me in her “older sister” tone of voice.

“Can’t it wait till we get home?” I whined as we climbed into the car.

“Fine, but you know if we do that, Christina is gonna lecture you, Lisa is gonna lecture you, and Katherine is gonna lecture you. This way, you only get one lecture for now, and today is our little secret.”

“Ok, fine, lecture now please.” I said quickly, “Oh and what did Elijah whisper in your ear earlier before lunch?”

“Oh, that, yeah he told me “I think my friend likes your sister”, and it is really pretty obvious that you like him too.”

“Wait, he what? I mean I what? Amy I don’t like him like that, I barely know him.” I said quickly.

“Uh-huh, sure. Then why’d you give him your number?” Amy asked me, crossing her arms and facing me.

“Because, maybe I did want to get to know him better. As a friend! Nothing else.” I replied, feeling really uncomfortable and flustered.

“And then why’d you blush every time he called you beautiful, or complimented you, or asked about a second date.” Amy said, looking me dead in the eyes.

“Because, you know not many guys really look at me for me, and say that. He was sweet.” I said, my voice getting softer and quieter with every word. I could feel myself blushing.

“Yeah, and how do you know he didn’t know who you are? who we are?” Amy asked, sounding more motherly than sisterly.

“Because, he doesn’t, I dropped plenty of hints didn’t I? Oh me and my sisters are pretty into singing, yeah if he recognized either of us, I’m sure he could’ve put two and two together Amy. He didn’t know.” I said, not sure why I cared so much.

“Okay then,” Amy sighed, “But it was pretty obvious he was flirting with you, and you were flirting back. He didn’t notice, Elijah didn’t notice, but then again they don't know you like I do. You were flirting with him. You like him.”

“Ok, ok, maybe I like him a little…”

“Not just a little, more like a lot.” Amy said, cutting me off.

“Fine, a lot. But what about you and Elijah?”

“What about me and Elijah?” Amy asked, looking confused.

“Oh you like him.”

“And what makes you think that?”

“Oh I don’t know Ames, the giggling more than usual, letting him hug you, the slight staring problem you had earlier, and the wanting to keep today a secret from the rest of the girls? Yeah, you like him.”

“Fine, I like Elijah, he’s sweet and funny; and it’s like you said, it’s not like a lot of boys look at us for who we are and are completely honest with us. They were, and it’d be nice to explore the possibility of something being there.” Amy said carefully, blushing a little as she said it.

“You know, they weren’t completely honest, they never explained who Melanie was.” I said offhandedly.

“To be fair, Chris did look kinda depressed when you asked about her. Maybe it’s an ex and things ended badly for them? I’m sure he’ll tell you when he’s ready. It’s not like he openly lied about her to us.”

“Yeah I guess. Let’s just go home, if he calls me we can finish our lecture then ok? I’m still not sure he even wants a second date.”

“Oh he definitely wants one, and a third date, and a fourth date…” Amy said, grinning at me.

“Ok, I get it.”

“Good,” Amy said giggling, “And yeah, we’ll finish the lecture after he calls you and asks you on a date.”

“Thank you,” I said, sighing and leaning back in my chair, “Now let’s go home, I’m exhausted.”
