It became abundantly obvious to Ivo that there was something up with this Stone guy. He didn't know exactly what this "something" was, if he was to be honest, but it was certaintly there. Time and time again he caught Stone gazing into space seemingly unaware of the fact that he was meant to be doing very important science stuff like cleaning the doctor's test tubes and organizing his files.
Each time that Ivo made Stone aware of reality, Stone would jolt suddenly and then awkwardly rub his hand through his black hair and he would smile a quite cutesy smile, if Ivo was honest. His eyes would light up and one side of his mouth would perk up almost as if a tiny invisible thread was pulling it. Then almost as soon as the smile had appeared on Stone's face, it would disappear and Stone would put his head down and try to focus on whatever task he was meant to be doing.
For a while, it had been somewhat annoying to Ivo. He had expected that this intern would just do the work that he had set for him but it seemed that it was not to be. Eventually though, Ivo began to not care. He was perfectly fine with having a spectator who didn't break anything usually sit back and do whatever he wanted, so long as it wasn't causing chaos and disturbing his work.
On a random day of no immediate significance, Ivo and Stone were in the lab. Ivo was bent over his latest project which he claimed would revolutionize how the average person viewed robots. Stone was behind him, hovering over his shoulder like a bumblebee over a flower. Ivo was vaguely aware of the look of sheer wonder and awe on Stone's face as he watched Ivo manoeuvring on the small drone.
"Hand me over that screwdriver, would you?"
"Uh...wha-? OH YEAH TOTALLY"
Stone snapped out of his dream-like state and scrambled to provide Ivo with the tool. With the frantic state he was in, poor Stone didn't realize he had collided with Ivo causing the drone to fall off the table, falling onto the floor with an audible crash. Ivo looked down in horror, seeing his creation reduced to broken pieces scattered sporadically all over the lab floor.
"Look at what you've done." Ivo said, his voice cracking.
Stone turned around, glancing down at the mess and then meeting the gaze of Ivo. Stone opened his mouth to talk but no words came out.
"Look what you've done. Do you see what you have done? All my work, destroyed. And it is entirely your fault...your fault...YOUR FUCKING FAULT"
Ivo's words spewed out of his mouth like lava out of a volcano. Tears were appearing in the corners of his eyes and he was going pink in the face.
"I'm so sorry!! I..I didn't mean to, I was just-"
"Just what? Distracted? Clueless? Being such a complete and total idiotic moron you can't focus on the most SIMPLE of tasks? Are you brain-dead? Or just a dim-witted, bone- head who can't even comrehend that they exist?"
Stone found himself backing into a wall, both physically and metaphorically. Ivo was stepping closer and closer to him, as more and more words managed to escape his lips. Eventually, Stone began to speak.
"Listen! Yes, fine, alright, maybe I did get distracted...b-but you can't say that hasnt happened before! You've clearly noticed that happening before, and what did you do? NOTHING, that's right, NOTHING. I get that you only agreed to doing this internship for the sake of saving your sorry-ass but this whole ordeal hasn't been as mutually beneficial as I was lead to believe! So, yeah, your fucking beep boop flying machine broke, so what? Since you always bring up that "i hAvE FoUr pHd'S aNd CoUnTiNg" you can make another! So why don't you hop off MY FUCKING DICK"
Instantly, Ivo went quiet. The tears that had been building up previously began to flow down his cheeks like rain on a car window. Stone did not know how to respond and he was shocked and maybe even a little bit impressed that he could conjure up a series of words that could make somebody cry.
Ivo turned around, and walked back to his desk. He sat himself into his chair and tucked his head into his arms on the table. His cries echoed around the room. The cries started off as gentle sobs but quickly became loud wails. Stone did not know how to react. He considered leaving through the door never to return and becoming a goat farmer in some mountains somewhere, but that seemed immensely cowardly.
Stone walked towards Ivo. His hand hovered over Ivo's head, contemplating whether patting him would be helpful or just degrading "Oh..my...I..I didnt mean to hurt you, sir, I was just incredibly fed up and I completely understand if you don't want to continue this internship..."
Suddenly, Ivo stood up. His chair finding a spot alongside the drone pieces on the floor. Ivo grabbed Stone's face and found himself planting his lips with the Stone's. Stone's eyes enlarged in shock, but he returned the kiss. The two stayed like that for several minutes before a knock on the front door rudely interrupted them.
The knock made Ivo aware of what he had just done and he looked mortified. He excused himself to knock on the door, practically tumbling out the lab door. Stone remained in place, very flustered. His face felt hot, and his stomach felt like a million feathers were rubbing against it.
Ivo returned a few minutes later, some letters in his hand. The two sheepishly looked at each other before Ivo dropped said letters and moved towards Stone and planted another kiss on his lips which was eagerly accepted by him.
This time, Stone stopped the kiss. He gestured to the clock behind them that it was time for him to leave. He could swear he spotted a flicker of sadness on Ivo's face but he wasn't sure. He gathered his things and left, but not before hearing Ivo call from behind;
"The internship will be continued"
