TW: mentions of physical abuse and a little bit of angst, not much tho.

The crew pulled up to the site they were visiting that night, a haunted woods Shane and Ryan would have to sleep in. He looked over at his best friend, who looked extremely nervous. It was cute, the way his eyes were wide and he flinched at every little sound, it made Shane just want to hold him and make sure he knew everything was alright. But alas, they had roles to play, which causes Shane to be the token asshole to his crush.

They got out of the car, Devon already at the trunk unloading the camping stuff. "Uh guys?" The two men looked over at her. "Did you forget to pack two sleeping bags?" Shane groaned loudly and smacked his face.

"Oh my god I totally forgot! I'm sorry!" Ryan laughed at his stupidity.

"It's fine dipshit, we'll just share."

"You sure little guy?" The thought of sleeping so close to someone he couldn't be with was a terrifying thing, but it was better than being cold.

"Yeah Sasquatch." Ryan grinned at Shane and grabbed his stuff, looking into the deep woods, his muscles slowly stiffening in fear. Shane laughed now, patting his friend on the shoulders

"We're gonna be fine Ry."

They were, for the most part. Ryan was absolutely terrified the entire time and jumped when he stepped on a stick and it snapped, but now the two were settling down with the cameras on them.

Ryan unzipped his sleeping bag, which was quite large for the tiny human, and pat in the empty space next to him, which Shane cautiously sat down in and zipped it up around them.

They shuffled around quite a bit, mumbling sorrys and other things as they bumped into each other.

Eventually, they settled. Ryan was pressed warmly against his chest and he lightly had an arm draped over the boys ribs, his excuse being that he had nowhere else to put it. It was intimate and comfortable for the two of them to be laying like this in Shane's opinion, but Ryan didn't seem to mind either. They fell asleep soon after.

Shane shifted in the tiny space and rose his head in confusion as to why he had woken up. He never woke up in the middle of the night, so what was going on? The warm body of Ryan was pressed against his chest but he wasn't still like a sleeping person normally is. The boy was shaking and curled in on himself, mumbling soft words under his breath in his sleep. He looked terrified. He lightly shook the boys shoulder. "Ry? Wake up bud you're having a nightmare." The words and the extra touch made Ryan jump awake, rocketing out of the sleeping bag and into a ball position, as if preparing to be hit.

"I'm sorry don't hurt me." He whines softly, not looking up at Shane. His heart broke, watching the normally happy and strong Ryan looking small and terrified.

"Ry- it's me, I'd never hurt you Ryan." At his soft voice Ryan finally looked up and saw him, the man wiping tears from his eyes.

"I thought- I thought he was back- it's just you." The boy panted out, not making a move to go closer to Shane.

"Ryan, who's he?" He asked softly. He filled with sympathy and pain for his best friend, the man he had loved for a while now, someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

"My ex.... he..." Ryan couldn't go on, sobbing. Shane quickly pulled the boy into his arms, carding his fingers through his hair and whispering soothing words. Ryan looked up at him and they stared at each other for a long while, a soft tone taking over the tiny tent they were sitting inside. Shane slid a hand on Ryan's cheek, the boy letting his head fall against his palm. It was a soft tender moment between the two.

"I wouldn't hurt you." Shane said softly, but he knew Ryan knew that. They knew each other better than anything.

"I know Shane, and I, I really want that, I'm just scared." He flinched back as if Shane was going to shout or hit him, but he simply stroked his thumb on the boys cheek with a small smile.

"That's ok ry, when you're ready." Ryan met his eyes again and he softened further, the curiosity and confusion sparkling in them.

"Really?" Shane nodded quietly,

"When you're ready."

About 6 months later

Shane knew Ryan had been going to therapy since that night, he had been there for the boy all though this time. The two had grown impossibly closer and Shane had simply fallen further for the boy, but he still respected his need for time.

Shane was sitting at his seat in the office, working quietly on his computer. It was any other normal Thursday, early in the morning. Nothing was really going on and it was especially silent in the office since Ryan hadn't arrived yet.

It was past the time Ryan normally arrived and Shane was about to text him, until he felt a pair of arms wrapping around his chest and a head lay on his shoulder. He looked to his right to see Ryan gazing softly at him. He broke into a soft smile, resisting the urge to lean forward and kiss him.

"I'm ready." Ryan whispered softly, a smile breaking out onto his face as Shane's widened. Finally, he did press forward, placing his lips softly to Ryan's.

Shouts and clapping erupted around the office as the two slowly broke apart, Shane raising his head to see people recording and everyone looking at them. He laughed softly.

"Finally! What took y'all so long?" Someone called

"Ryan needed to be ready." Shane looked at Ryan with a loving face, everyone 'awing' and cheered once again.

Yeah, it was worth the wait.
