Ryan's pov

Ryan shook like usual as he walked next to his friend. Shane was talking about something stupid like normal but Ryan didn't care, he was too worried watching the ghosts move from room to room.

He could see them, he had always been able to. Ever since that surgery he had as a kid- maybe the medication they used messed with his brain or something, but now he could see ghosts so. He tried not to look at the apparitions as he zoned back into what Shane was saying.

"So I was thinking we go to this 'portal' place and lock ourselves in it for 10 minutes like usual, what do you think?" Ryan shuddered as he looked into the place and saw all the ghosts inside it. He knew Shane was gonna do it anyways, the man didn't believe in things right in front of him.

"Sure, I'll go first." He walked inside, sitting down on the floor as ghosts and what he really hoped wasn't a demon looked at him. The vibes in the room were quite violent and he felt like someone was going to get hurt in here. "Listen guys," he attempted to reason, "I don't want to be here either. I think it would be mutually beneficial if we just left each other alone." They didn't seem too interested. "How about this! You do whatever you want to me and you leave the next guy who comes in here alone? How's that?" They didn't take that either. Fuck. Hopefully they wouldn't hurt Shane, he didn't know what he would do if they did.

"10s up Ryan! Come on pal!" Ryan stood and shot one more pleading glance at the ghosts before walking out of the portal. Shane grinned at his worried expression and slapped a hand on his shoulder. "There's nothing in there Ry! Don't worry." And with that his idiotic friend was inside the demon room. He could hear Shane going about his normal antics, screaming and insulting and he silently prayed nothing happened.

And then it all stopped.

Suddenly Shane's cheerful voice cut off in the middle of a sentence, nothing stirred. Ryan exchanged glances with Teej and started to get nervous. They stood there in the all too silent room until the alarm went off.

"Shane! Times up!" There was no response. "Big guy!" He knocked on the metal door. "Come on man!" Still nothing. Ryan slowly opened the door and stepped inside, it clicking shut as he felt the eyes of all the spirits staring him down. "Shane?" He whimpered out, hugging himself as he ventured deeper into the quite small room. He should have seen Shane by now. "Shane this isn't funny man." He actually felt tears welling up in his eyes. "Shane come on!" His voice cracked slightly and he started to shake, vision blurry from forming tears.

Suddenly a door opened from the back of the room. Moonlight poured into the pitch black space Ryan had been in and Shane's stupid ass face walked inside.

"Hey Ry! Did I scare you?" Ryan felt a mix of relief and fury. He glared at his tall friend as tears started to actually fall from his eyes. He wanted to hug him but he also wanted to scream.

"You fucking asshole Shane!" Normally his voice was playful when he yelled at Shane, but there was nothing but anger in his voice. He spun around, still shaking with tears on his cheeks and stormed out of the room, not even passing a glance at Teej as he walked back to the hotel which luckily was nearby.

Shane's POV

Shane stood in the middle of the room, dumbfounded. He thought it was just a funny joke, when he found the door, to go outside and freak out Ryan and Teej. Now Ryan was hell knows where and from what Shane had seen, crying. He walked out of the room, looking at Teej who was just as confused as him. But not as worried, no one could be.

As the two gathered their gear and went out to the car, Shane had some time to reflect. What the hell was he thinking? He knew Ryan was terrified of this shit but he didn't think he would be so worried. Why was he so worried? There's a logical explanation Shane, there always is. He nodded to himself and imagined Ryan's face again, the last thing he had seen of his friend recently, a face he never wanted to see again. The fear and fury in his friends in his eyes, the tears on his cheeks, the pure anger in his voice. He shuddered and looked up as the hotel came into view.

"I'll get him Teej, sorry about that."

"Nah it's ok, we'll shoot again tomorrow." The two parted ways as Shane rushed to his hotel room, where hopefully his friend was. He got to the door and scanned his card, slowly opening the door and trying not to make noise. He heard shuffling and some soft sniffs and walked into the part of their room with their bed and saw Ryan. He was sitting on the edge of the bed with his head in his hands, very clearly sobbing by the way his body shook with the silent cries. He slowly approached, knowing his friend knew he was already there.

Shane laid a hand on his shoulder and Ryan immediately jerked away, standing up as his entire body hardened into anger.

"Ry-"

"What Shane."

"I just- I didn't know you were gonna react like that."

"Oh really? You didn't think I would freak out thinking that one of the most important people in my life had just gone missing or worse." Ryan spat at him, making Shane flinch.

"I thought you were more logical than to jump to conclusions like that!" He knew it was the wrong statement when Ryan's hands clenched into fists.

"I need to be more logical? You clearly need to be more logical if you think that that was a smart little thing to pull!"

"I'm sorry ok! I fucked up! I didn't think you would care so much!"

"Care so much about what? You? Because if you didn't think I cared about you then you really are fucking stupid." Shane cocked his head at that, and noticed Ryan tense more when he realized that he just shouted his confession.

"Ry- I didn't know you cared about me so much. I really am sorry, I just assumed we were just friends and you would just think it was funny."

"Shane we are not 'just friends' you are so dense. You are like- one of the people I care about most and I just assumed you knew that because I thought that's how you felt and-" Shane pulled him into a hug before he could keep spewing words from his mouth. The two held each other is their arms for a long while.

"I'm sorry Ryan, I understand, I don't know what I would do if you were gone. We're ghoul brothers man, forever. I love you pal."

"I love you too big guy. Also there's a ghost watching us."

"What- huh?"
