Elaine
"So you found out who killed dad, why won't you tell me?" I sassed. It's one thing to hide all of this from me, but another to not tell me the whole story.
"Wait? You knew?" Uncle John asked suspectingly. I wasn't exactly planning on telling them this now; there comes a time for everything.
"Well, uh," I hesitated; trying to find the right words was hard, "Yeah. I started to speculate when some crazy kid from my biochemistry class started harassing Harry and I. After he started mentioning a will for dad, I got curious. I may or may not have snuck into your shed and gone through his paperwork."
The look on their faces was shocked. I bit my lip holding back a laugh. Why was I laughing? I don't know. Maybe to distract myself from my nerves. I was awaiting their reaction. The suspense was just killing me.
"You know about the will?" Aunt Erin piped up.
"Yeah. Speaking of, why the hell didn't you tell me? I might want a heads up if I'm going to be inheriting millions," I crossed my leg over my knee. They both had a nervous grin on their face. I guess it runs in the family. God, I can't believe they're my family. They lied to me about so many important things.
"We were going to tell you, we just didn't know how," my aunt spewed. That's the biggest load of bullshit.
"Here let's practice. Repeat after me: Your dad ran a secret gaming company and is leaving all of his profits to you. Oh yeah, he also didn't die of cancer, some lowlife killed him," I growled.
"Elaine we're sorry. We only wanted what was best for you," My uncle sat in silence listening to my aunt and I bicker. It was rare for him to step up in arguments anyways.
"What's best for me is that you just fucking tell me who killed dad. I don't know why it's such a big deal. You said the bastard was dead anyways!" I shouted a bit too loud. Aunt Erin shut her eyes and breathed out heavily.
"Don't use that profanity in this household," she directed.
"I'm almost eighteen years old, I can say whatever the fuck I want," words were flowing out of my mouth like a faucet. I was so fucking done with their bullshit.
"Fine," she snapped, "You want to know who unplugged my brother-in-law's, your dad's, life support, and injected deadly amounts of heroin into his bloodstream? Do you want to know the reason that you were pushed into our household? It was the deadbeat stepdad of your dumbass boyfriend. Don't act like this didn't affect us either!"
"Wait," I got quieter, "You guys didn't actually want me? I mean, I figured that, but hearing it is so much more," I shook my head and sunk back into the couch. I should be used to not being good enough by now. First my mom left, then Harry and now them? Why does this hurt so god damn much?
Aunt Erin leaned back into her seat, knowing she said too much. My bottom lip quivered. Feeling unwanted was weird. I'd grown up with these people by my side and now I felt like they were strangers. Everyone around me was becoming like a stranger.
"I did," my uncle stepped in. Wow, that makes me feel better. After all of the lying they've done how could I know that they're telling the truth.
"That's a load of crap John. It was your idea to pay that kid from the church to break them up. I couldn't let her get close to Jay. He did our family dirty and if she had gotten hurt, we wouldn't be able to pay all of the other companies off with her inheritance," she looked at my hurt expression and smiled evilly, "Oh I'm sorry. Didn't mean to tell you that. We are in charge of the money before you turn eighteen. Don't expect much to be left when you get it. Where do you think that car came from?"
