The Beginning Of Linstead

Chapter 6

Erin slowly started to awaken, she could feel her head thumping and her stomach was doing backflips. She felt awful. The light shone in brightly causing her to squint her eyes, she started rubbing her face to try wake herself up.

Suddenly it hit her, she went home with Jay last night. But she wasn't in her own bed, they went back to his place. She slowly turned to the other side of the bed and their he was. Sleeping peacefully. Handsome as ever.

Last night was amazing but was it a mistake? This could put both their jobs in jeopardy. She slowly started to pull herself up out of his bed. Trying not to wake him.

Once she was up she started to gather her things, then she realised that the only clothing she had was her ball gown and wearing that out at 8am in the morning was going to look awful strange. Then she thought about how she was meant to get home. What get a taxi half naked?

After a few seconds of standing at his bedroom door in nothing but her bra and undies she heard him speak. Sure it looked bad, she was standing there holding all her things half naked wondering if this was one big mistake.

"Um morning" Jay said rubbing his eyes as he sat up in his bed.

Erin turned to face him "Hi"

"So last night"

"Yeah." Erin smiled.

"So what does this mean for us?" Jay said rolling out of bed in nothing but a pair of boxers and talk about morning glory.

"Omg Jay!" Erin quickly turned around and put her hand across her eyes.

The both chuckled quietly, Jay getting a little embarrassed "I might go have a shower, feel free to grab a t-shirt or something to put on and make yourself a coffee I will be out in a minute"

"Jay I really should get going" Erin said awkwardly.

"Hey just let me have a shower and then I will take you home? Please"

"Okay sure" Erin said as she walked out and he went into the bathroom.

Jay had been in the shower for about 5 minutes, he couldn't stop thinking about last night. Her touch against his, her scent, her beauty. It's not exactly how he wanted their first time to happen but he was happy it wasn't like anything he had experience before. But he still wasn't sure where this put them.

He got out and dried himself off, then he quickly chucked some clothes on. Once he was dressed he walked out and saw Erin sitting on a bar stool at his kitchen counter in one of his shirts. His heart skipped a beat.

"Did you have some coffee?" She nodded as she held up her coffee cup.

"I really should get going Jay, I can just grab a taxi?"

Jay shook his head "Don't be silly I will take you" he grabbed his keys and they walked out the door.

The car ride was silent and a little awkward. They were both thinking the same thing. What was this? A one night stand or something they could really make a go of.

"Erin this is silly." Jay said as he stopped at a set of traffic lights.

"Yeah I know I'm sorry. It's just what does this mean?"

"What do you want it to mean?" He said taking off.

"Jay look. Last night was" she took a deep breath getting flashbacks of it, she quickly blinked "It was great, really. But I really think we should be professional about this and leave it at that."

Jay pulled up at her apartment building. He sighed and turned slightly to face her, his eyes were sad but forgiving.

"Okay. I mean if that's what you want."

She shock her head "It's not what I want but I know it's what we should do."

He cupped her cheek as she finished talked. They both leant in to each other. Jay went to kiss her and she quickly pulled back.

"Jay I'm sorry I can't." She quickly got out of the car and slowly walked into her building.

Jay slapped his hands against the steering wheel. Why was it this hard. They'd known each other for 2 months and she was all he thought about, finally something between them happened and she just pushed him away even though he knew she felt something as well.
