It's been three days and Walter is now starting to understand everything about maximum security prison.

One,almost everyone was scary in their own way. He is surrounded by real criminals and not amateurs. Who is kidding, they all look deadly despite of their differences.

And for someone as innocent as him it was like blending in the background. If he kept to the sides of the hallways otherwise someone would threaten to stick their shoe up his ass if he didn't move aside.

Two, he had to move away from a gory fight in the showers and had to wipe the blood and foam with his towel since other inmates were already getting in his shower. So,he learnt taking a shower five minutes early was a wise choice unless he wanted blood as substitute to water.

Three, he managed to get his plate of food thrown in his face not knowing what happened. He also faced bullying from others but didn't engage.

Four, and the most terrifying of all was he wasn't exactly blending in background to one person. It took a while for Walter to know but he did. The person was far but watching. Breathing down his neck but with manners,if you could say that.

But Walter didn't like it because he could feel the burning eyes even in the shower.

Walter doesn't really have a serious issue at Tinning Jail but the guard, Bernie, had replaced his shadow.
....................

Tinning Jail was located out of the city. In fact, it was much closer to the Tinning Highway Apartments Walter once called home. The jail buildings looked as dead as they should be. Bright lights shone over the cold grass and grounds. There was no one in sight except the lookout guard in the tall tower and the guard at the gate. The inmates had retired to their rooms not two hours ago.

Walter has kept his wits about him. After all, he just got thrown in jail  because  of a bewitched video of him killing an old drunk. He was innocent but in jail and 20 years left in there.
That's enough to send him off sanity.

As much as he wanted to sink in despair and hence suicide, Bernie wouldn't let him apparently. The casual yet stifling stalking kept him on his feet.

Walter whimpers and  clutches the scratchy blanket closer to his nose.
The thin blanket does nothing to the cold and his height. He is located on a top bunk. Thank God.

Two of his fellow inmates are playing cards and another asleep, undisturbed by the short blanket and cold.

Will I get used to this? Will I be able to sleep like him?

He watched the others laughing and shuffling cards and wondered if he would get any sleep.

I doubt it.

He was sleepy  but several factors stopped him. Bernie, the cold, the short blanket and most importantly his mother's eyes.

Oh,mom. I'll do anything to take away the disappointment from your face but I can't. I'm in this place. How did a business consultant end up in jail for trying to save an endangered woman? What will my friends think? I am sure most of them don't believe this. I know my mom will take some time to come visit. But I'm sure Given will show up. He has had my back ever since Ronald passed away. Too bad they only allow visitation after a month. Who knows how long I'll la--

"Oi!" One of the inmates whisper to him. His straggly beard and thin limbs resembles a medical abused version of Gandalf.
"You miss your momma?" The man smirks, as the other lays cards on the bed.

"Why are you in here again?" He asks, tapping the flashlight when it's light goes out.
"I was framed." Walter mumbles.
"Yeah, everyone who comes here says that." The man sniffs." You can't run away from the truth, son." He taps the light again and sets it on the bed.
Walter scowls at him." I'm not run-"
