Alpha Adonis POV

I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror, watching my eyes flicker like a dying lightbulb. One second it resembles tree bark afloat in the ocean and the next it's as metallic as the moon. My lack of self-control grew continuously since I met her. I don't want to involve her in my crooked world. I'm signing her death sentence if I don't ignore my primal instincts to sink my teeth into her and make her mine.

After splashing more water in my face, I make my way towards the door. Just focus on my pack and conquer the demons that haunt me. That's it.

"Are you going to leave me here all by myself?" Hearing her voice was the equivalence of nails scraping a chalk board. I turned to see her naked body enveloped deep within my sheets.

"When did you even get in here Belle?" I asked slightly annoyed by the way she invited herself into my room.

"Not too long ago. You haven't been enjoying me for some time now. Is it because of the new girl?"

"Get Out."

"Tell me the truth! Do you love her or something? Don't forget I rejected my mate to be with you!" She screamed as ugly black tears fell from her makeup that littered her eyes. The full weight of my power seeped out of my veins as I walked towards her. The closer I got, the more her body crumbled deeper into the pillows.

"Have you forgotten who I am?" I growled lowly. "Stay away from her and me while you're at it. Now leave." She disappeared quickly without hesitation leaving her sickening bubble gum scent lingering in my bed. I made a mental note to get them washed as I went on to handle my pack's business.

I was welcomed with cheers and bows as I entered the dining room. My warriors kneeled in respect and the women offered me platters of food in reverence. My pack was important to me and I would do anything to protect them at whatever cost. I have annihilated entire packs for these wolves, and I would do it again.

"Alpha Adonis!" Shouted the whiny sarcastic filled screech of my baby sister. I pushed her meaty head out the way as I kissed my mother on the cheek who sat beside her ready to scold me. And then I saw her. Eating a gigantic plate of breakfast unbeknownst of the kids playing in her curly hair as she ate.

"Good morning Princess."

"Good morning Alpha Adonis." She replied with her soft voice. I could barely hear her over the crowd. I would have to teach her how to use her Alpha's voice soon. I wonder how her voice sounds when-... I turned around walking away before my thoughts went too far.

Crunching down on crispy pork, I walked throughout the kitchen acknowledging the staff.

"Hey Alpha. I know this is last minute, but can I speak to you before you take off?" Jaxon spoke as he wiped his hands against his apron. I nodded my head motioning him know to continue. "I wanted to know if I could have the night of the ball off so I could bring a date. I know I'm usually the head chef, but this year is different.

"You deserve it Jax." After what I did to him. After what I took from him. It really was the least I could do.

Ava's POV

As I ate the breakfast Jaxon made me it was obvious that he was interested in me. Everyone else ate on average plates but mine was served on this massive exotic platter fit for a queen. It was decorated exquisitely with swirled designs of fruit, meats, and waffle towers. I wondered if I would feel those signature sparks when we touched? I looked up as he spoke with Alpha Adonis in the bustling kitchen. I mean Adonis. I couldn't help but compare them. They were around the same height, but Jaxon sported his lean muscle and boyish hair. Adonis's frame was bigger and more muscular. He was littered in intricate tattoos and his hair was brushed back neatly.

May seems to have caught me eying the men in the kitchen as a devious smirk grew on her face. My eyes were suddenly glued on the paintings hug on the wall. I could feel her curious eyes searing holes into my skull before I decided to grow balls and turn to face her again.

"What?" I questioned as I pushed my chair back to escape her inevitable questions.

"Spill!" She screamed chasing after me until we were running full speed throughout the house and into the garden.

"Leave me alone May!" I giggled slightly out of breath. "Man, you're fit."

"I train with the warriors from time to time. Now spill. What was that look about? I saw you giving Jason the googly eyes. Or were you looking at my brother?" She asked with her wide eyes sucking in all the fresh air with her gasp.

"Why don't you tell me about your mate?" I asked trying to change the subject, feeling red hot from her accusations. Her smile dropped and her whole demeaner transformed. It felt as if the clouds hid the sun and all the animals fell dead when I asked that question.

"I've never shared this with anyone before. But I trust you Ava." I reached for her hand not really knowing what to expect. A few moments had passed before she finally spoke. "Four years ago, my mate was murdered by my father." I couldn't breathe hearing her speak. I felt terrible for even bringing up the subject. Conversations about mates were something girls bonded over but not like this. "My father believed mates made you weak. He killed his own mate and replaced her with my mother to carry his offspring. When he found out I had found the love of my life he didn't hesitate to kill him."

"I am so sorry." I said as I pulled her into my tight embrace. Her body shuddered as the sobs ripped through her. I held her until her cries slowly died down leaving her still in my arms. I looked into her pink puffy eyes as I gave her a small smile as it felt like the only thing, I could offer her.

"I still love him Ava. That is why his smell remains with me. I may never move on." She spoke as if her wounds were being torn open all over again. Despite her girly personality, she is strong. Most wolves die soon after their mate does, or they go insane.

The sound of footsteps was heard behind me as I turned around to see his tall stature walking smoothly toward us.

"Hey May. Do you mind if I steal Ava from you for a sec?" Jaxon said as he tilted his head clearly oblivious to Mays' vulnerability.

"Sure! I was just leaving." She said winking her sore eyes at me before slipping away as if nothing happened.

"Hi Jaxon." I said as I stood up. He looked even better in the sunlight.

"Have you heard of the annual ball yet?" He said getting straight to the point. Before I could respond, he continued in all his excitement. "Well. Every year we hold a formal gathering celebrating Alpha Adonis's rule and what not. Anyway. What I am trying to say is, Will you go to the ball with me?"
