I'm not sure if my stomach twisted in knots because I found out May is Alpha Adonis's sister or because I'm just hungry. Like a dream come true, the previously packed dining room was void of any life. It was just me and the fridge.

Ignoring the feeling that I was trespassing; I opened the double doors to heaven. I saw the burrito wrapped beautifully on a glass plate. My mouth salivated uncontrollably as I couldn't recall the last time I ate. I could cry right now.

On the plate was a little note that read.

It tastes better fresh. I will treat you to a dinner worth waiting for.

Rereading the note again, I placed it in my pocket. My mind swarmed with images of mating and having little blonde-haired rascals running around our house. Is that what it would be like to have a mate?

I reheated the breakfast burrito and finished it almost instantaneously. Getting up, I poured me a fresh glass of orange juice and gulped the icy liquid down in seconds. I rotated the glass cup in my hand, eying the drop of juice left at the bottom when I felt it. That feeling of being watched again.

Whipping my neck around, I saw a woman around my age. She was drop dead gorgeous. She had orange bombshell curls that rested right above her collar bone. Her cleavage matched her curves in a symmetrical hourglass shape. She oozed confidence as she eyed me up and down beneath the length of her lashes.

"I'm sorry. Did I scare you?" She asked with a voice of velvet.

"No. I just thought I was alone down here. My name is Ava by the way."

"I should scare you." She said with a scheming smile. "I'm Adonis's mate. Do yourself a favor and fall back." With a roll of her eyes, she walked away clicking her heels against the ground. She marked her territory that I had no interest in, in the first place.

Deep down I knew if that were completely true, it wouldn't have bothered me so much. I shook my head dismissing my thoughts and decided to head upstairs. I have had enough introductions and drama for today. Biologically I was supposed to be this powerful being on this throne of gold, but instead, I felt like plastic.

I wandered through the twisted long hallway for some time to find my room. I knew I was lost. This maze of a house was driving me crazy until I stumbled upon an open door. Driven by curiosity, I peaked in revealing a priceless sanctuary. The walls were lined we hundreds of books from top to bottom. A large hickory desk graced the middle of the room guarded by leather couches on the sides. I walked in letting my fingers graze the tattered spines of the books as I strolled by. There were books on mates, pack history, geography, the art of war, and magic. It never ended and I did not want it to. My hands stuck to a book and brought it to my nose inhaling the scent of the stained pages.

"Are you a book worm?" his deep voice called out from the doorway. I turned around trying to conceal how much his voice affected me.

"Ms. G used to sneak me books to read as we weren't allowed access to them often. I love them. I must admit, your library is breathtaking."

"Thank you but this is my office."

I felt my body heat up from embarrassment. Once again, I felt as if I was invading an area I shouldn't be. He was dressed so casually in a charcoal v neck shirt and slightly darker joggers to match. It made even more flustered than I already was. "I'm sorry. I'll take my leave."

"Stay. Your welcome here anytime." He said as he sat behind his desk beginning to sift through papers. I felt like an awkward Bambi just standing watching him jump straight into his work. So, I pretended to scan the walls of books trying to avoid any further gracelessness.

The papers stopped shuffling and I felt his eyes on my back. Watching me. "Tell me something. Why did you do it?" He asked. He clearly had something to get off his chest and so did I.

I clutched a book tightly to my chest as I stared into the shelf. I knew exactly what he was referring to. "He was going to rape me."

I could hear the trauma in my voice, and I hated it. I faced him as he ran his fingers through his hair obviously disturbed by what I shared. "I didn't know." He said. His face filled with regret.

"Can I ask you a favor?" I asked as he looked at me to continue. "I want to be strong. My whole life I have cried out of weakness. I couldn't even save my pack from an attack. Teach me how to be an Alpha. A strong one."

"What's in it for me love?" I paused not really knowing what to say. What do I bring to the table?

"What do you want?" I asked. His eyes flashed silver as he seemed to lose control for a second.

"I'll let you know. Do we have a deal?"

"Deal."

I felt like I was one step closer to being who I was born to be. I couldn't help the slight grin that crept up on my face. He shook his head with a slight chuckle showing off his glistening canines.

"You will be running your own pack by the time I'm done with you. Just keep who you really are under wraps for as long as you can. I had to erase Rachael's memory as she got a glimpse of your wolf when you attacked her. If word gets out that you're an Alpha, danger will wait around every corner." He mentioned as he pulled out files glancing over them.

"You can do that? Are you that powerful to command someone to forget a memory?" I asked subconsciously distancing myself from him.

"Yeah. Next topic." He responded bluntly.

"Okay... How did your dad teach you to be an Alpha? Part of it is DNA but there is so much more to it right? I had so many nightmares of you and your dad from the stories I was told. But now I see the stories were wrong about you." I said spewing out my thoughts and processing them later.

He remained silent as if I hadn't spoken at all. Rude.

"You don't have to answer if it's too personal." I added in a failed attempt to save myself.

"My father ruled with an iron fist. He weaved fear into the hearts of his enemies, pack, and family." He took a deep breath. "I was taught his way from a young age and for a while that's all I knew. So, the stories you heard, chances are they are true. About me and my father."

"Oh..." I whispered not really knowing what to say.

"The day came when we got news the was murdered and that was the day, we threw a celebration and I took up the position of Alpha. From that day on, we have thrown a ball annually to celebrate our freedom from him and a new reign. Anyway. Enough story time. I think you should go to bed now. Its late." He spoke quickly dismissing the conversation about his father. I could only imagine what he went through.

"I can't remember how to get back to my room." I sighed still digesting what he told me about his past. He wordlessly got up and moved past me creating a wisp of his scent. I followed him briefly before we made it to my door. My room was right around the corner and causing me to break out into spontaneous laughter. He watched me with humor embedded in his eyes.

Soon the chuckles died, and I was full of concerns. "Is Mrs. Gretta okay? How is the pack?" These unanswered questions loomed in the back of my mind all day.

"Yes. I meant to tell you that the attacks ceased. I have sent my men over to guard the pack." I couldn't help but wonder why he would do all of this when he had nothing to gain.

"I misjudged you. For that I am sorry. Thank you, Alpha Adonis." I said as I walked into my room.

"Call me Adonis."
