The rest of the week went by pretty fast. Blake was still not coming to school, it was really starting to freak me out. I had called him and had no luck reaching anyone. I was going to go down to his house yesterday but I had homework that needed to be done by today.
Andrew and I had a couple more conversations after our first encounter. I swear that sometimes it seemed like we were actually getting along. While other times… let’s just say that we didn’t always get along. We constantly annoyed each other, it was kind of like a game. I definitely like him, not sure if he likes me, sometimes I think he does. Other times I wish he did.
At lunch on Thursday I had waited for Blake, but he never showed. When Jesse Martin told everyone he was going out for a smoke and asked if anyone wanted to join him, I practically shouted that I did.
I don’t smoke, and everyone knows that (they gave me odd glares).
“I need to go call Blake.” I explained. I heard ahs from Andrea and Julia, in recognition.
Jesse and I stood up “You guys aren’t coming?” he asked both the girls, and Luke, they shook their heads. “Alright, see you in class, Andy.” he kissed her forehead for a brief moment, she waved him away.
When we got outside I realized how windy it was. The trees looked like they were going to blow right out of the ground and there were random pieces of paper and other balls of things flying around. Me and Jesse were the only ones outside.
With the wind in my ear, it seemed like it was quieter inside than out “I’m heading back in.” I told him, he nodded.
I decided to save my money and use the phone in the office instead. I dialled his number and waited.
There was no answer.
After school I wanted to go down to Blake’s, but, something seemed inappropriate about the situation. Almost like he was avoiding me. I drove in silence, still debating whether or not I should check on him.
He was starting to really worry me. What if he’s really sick or something horrible had happened to Emily? Would he want to be left alone, or would he want comforting? It was really ticking me off.
I parked my bug and just sat there for a while. I finally decided that it would be best to give him some space, even if he wasn’t avoiding me.
I walked into the house and took off my boots, I noticed that Kyle’s boots weren’t there. His coat wasn’t hanged up either. He’s still at work, must be.
I was walking passed the living room and saw a flash coming off the answering machine. I pressed the play button. It was a message from Blake:
“Hey, Chris. Sorry I wasn’t at school today. Had some stuff to take care of…” he paused. More stuff! I wish he would just tell me what was really going on “I’ll be at school tomorrow, don’t come down. Please. By-” he got cut off by the machine. I think.
Maybe he really didn’t want to talk to me, or, maybe he does and he just doesn’t know how. Either way at least it answers my question. Bad idea to go over there.
I went into the kitchen to start supper. There was a pot already out on the stove with a bag of spaghetti. I looked around confusingly. Kyle’s still at work and I know I hadn’t set it out there.
I decided not to touch it just in case he did put it there this morning. I grabbed a bowl from the cupboard and poured the continents of some chicken noodle soup into it. I ran some water over it and put it in the microwave.
