PROM

My dress was a dazzling shade of crimson red. The ruffles in the front were indefinitely going to piss me off as I walked, though.

Ah, I love dances! I love seeing my friends, dancing, dressing up- and recently -dressing down. I love listening to the music, and singing.

I haven’t been to a dance in three years.

   Ding-dong.

I gripped my dress and flew down the stairs. I opened the door with a wide grin.

Andrew looked even better than I. The black tuxedo accented his every muscle. His red tie matched my dress. I frowned.

“You weren’t supposed to see the dress, remember?” I reminded him. I pecked him on the lips.

“Yeah, but I have x-ray vision, remember?” he kissed my forehead.

“You never told me that. Are you checking me out right now?” I demanded once I met his gaze.

   “Want me to?” he joked.

   I shook my head mockingly.

I had gone prom dress and shoes shopping with Alexis last weekend. She picked out a short pink girly dress, I got the short crimson red ruffle. She got matching high heels, I bought black platforms.

I slipped into my platforms, then slid my hand into the hole he made with his arm.

Andrew had rented a long black limousine for the night. We picked up Jesse, Andrea, Julia, Blake, and Rebecca Calvin.

If my friends had any idea about what Blake really had going on in his life, it wouldn’t have been such an awkward ride.

I was so lucky when we arrived at the school. Andrew was the first one out, followed by me.

We paid at the door, got our pictures taken then headed into the gym.

It wasn’t anything fancy, a lot of balloons, streamers, lights. I was just glad to be here.

I was sure that since all of my school skipping, I would’ve epically failed my exams. I was wrong. I aced them.

We- mostly me -danced to all the fast songs. The slow songs, we went and hid in the corners, or outside to dance. It felt more private.

We were dancing to a sweet slow song, when he started chuckling to himself.

“What is it?” I looked up at him.

“I was just thinking, maybe December is too early.”

I couldn’t help but grin. Where was this coming from? Why had he chosen to tell me now? No matter the answers, I liked the way the questions could only be answered positively.

“Really, are you sure?” I asked cautiously, sure that there was new fine lines.

“I’m sure.” he smiled down at me “Just one thing.”

   “Knew it.” I murmured.

He bent down to my ear and whispered “Will you go on a date with me?” then he added “Before Graduation.”

I kissed his cheek gently “What kind of date are we talking about, sweetie?”

He sighed “Not that kind. A normal date. Dinner, movie, bowling, whatever… you can decide what we do. I just want to go out on one date with you, official date.”

My eyebrows pulled together, he smoothed them out with thumbs “Why?” I asked.

“Because.” he said once his eyes had mines attention “If we’re going to do this… dating thing, we should go on at least one date.”

I bit my lip “Why not.” I agreed.

“Can I cut in?” a familiar rough voice asked.

Andrew growled at the same time that I said “Um, I guess, Blake.”

Andrew eyed us both before stepping to the side.

Blake picked me up and swung me around in a waltz motion, once Andrew was completely away.

“Hey!” I breathed. I patted his arms.

He was so tall, I had to guess that he was smiling from his voice “Sorry, guess I forgot again. I hugged Emily yesterday, she was nearly crushed! I think it’s something we both have to get used to.”

I knew he was talking about me and him, not his mother and himself “Yeah, I suppose.”

“So.” he whispered in my ear “You’re really marrying him, huh?”

   I nodded.

“Y’ know how much you’re giving up? You can’t have a family with him. You can’t-”

“I can’t live without him.” I interrupted “That’s true on every level. I need him. I need him with me, or I feel empty. I need his venom or I’ll literally die, I need to have him. Period.”

I nodded to Andrew. He walked over and dismissed Blake.

   The door slammed behind him.

   “He’s right.” he whispered emotionless.

My eyes widened at him “No he’s not. I can do the same things with anyone else that I can do with you, and better.” I looked away from him “I don’t even want kids. I was one once, I know they’re trouble.” Especially if they’re my children.

“So, what are you saying?” I still couldn’t look at him, but I felt his eyes hot on my face.

“I just want to be with you. No kids, unless… is that a problem?” I asked.

“Absolutely not. I’m perfectly happy with being your mate for the rest of my existence.”

I glanced up at his eyes. Milk chocolate, and filled with hope. I grinned.

He swooped down and planted a kiss on me. His breath smelt of mint and water, and tasted the same.

We both smiled at one another like a couple of idiots in love.
