KNOWING

I woke up in the passenger seat of Andrews car. My mind whirled with the memory of what had happened. Clare’s face, when she wanted me, all the way to when she thought she would die. My brief message to Andrew. Alexis’ terrified face and her cries of pain.

Me telling Alexis everything, that was probably the biggest thing that popped out.

“Where’s Alexis?” I asked as I scanned the backseats. They were empty.

“Well, hello to you, too.” Andrew said in a teasing tone. I glared at him “Easy tiger. She’s fine, the ambulance got there shortly after we did.”

“We? Blake’s here too?” I uselessly rechecked behind me.

“He chased after her.” he sighed “Seems like she’s going to get away, though.”

“No!” I yelled “No, she won’t. Stop this car right now and go after her if that’s what you have to do. She cant get away with this! She made me tell Alexis everything.” I admitted.

“I know. She was going on and on about vampires like a crazy person. It was quite funny.” he chuckled silently.

I just stared at him in wonder.

   “What?” he demanded.

“You’re not worried about her saying something?” I said an octave higher than my own tone.

“Nah, we can just use compulsion on her.” I stared at him quizzically “You remember that necklace that made you forget about me, right?” then he murmured “Demon thing.”

   “Yes.” I nodded.

“That necklace was loaded with compulsion. It was poorly done, but it was still effective. You recognized me before I removed it, didn’t you?”

   “A little.”

“See. Really good compulsion works through and through. No cracks. All we have to do is get a pure witch to make something for Alexis. Maybe a small tattoo or something.” he grinned wildly “Problem solved!”

I smiled “Okay, let’s tattoo Alexis at our birthday party.”

“Birthday party?” I could hear the criticism in his voice.

I sighed “It’s Alexis’ idea. She wants to throw a huge celebration and invite all of our… her friends.”

“When’s this?” he pulled the car to the side of the road.

I noticed we were in front of my house.

“May thirteenth, my birthday. You didn’t know that?” I asked incredulously.

“Of course I know when your birthday is. I’m your Guardian, remember? I have your file…” I gasped “Calm down, Christa…” he laughed humourlessly “I know everything about you.”

   “From my file!?”

“Some.” he whispered “Most of what I know is from being with you. I know your favourite song, colour. I know what you hate to eat in the mornings, hash browns and bacon. And I know why.”

   “Why what?”

“I know why it physically hurts you to think about the ones you love. You’re so petrified you’ll lose another loved one like your fat-”

“Please, stop” I interrupted with a shaky voice, I clutched my sides “I’m not… I don’t hate anything.”

   “Really? Not even Blake?”
