I woke up screaming. I never knew such a good dream could be so terrifying. Everything started so calm and beautiful. I was lying in a garden staring up at the stars. Andrew was by my side, his skin just as pale as mine. Our eyes were a golden shade that could only be described as richness. My light brown hair overflowed on top of my shoulders and my lips were a puckered shade of ruby red. In comparison to Andrew, however, I was like a rock next to a waterfall.
The dream rapidly changed. Suddenly my chestnut brown hair faded and faded until it only had patches of grey. My skin wrinkled until it began to fall away to the bone. My eyes changed from gold to brown to black then finally silver. The scariest part was when I saw into Andrew’s eyes and gained my own perspective back.
I looked through the terrifying shade of crimson, outlined by a dark tan, and saw the reflection of a casket.
My shrieks of horror were abruptly ended as I felt hands running through my hair.
“It’s all right.” he comforted “No one’s going to hurt you. I’m here. You are safe.”
“I know.” I snapped “It was just a dream.” I reassured myself aloud.
“It seemed more like a nightmare to me.” he said, pulling me in tighter.
“It wasn’t, well, not until the end.”
“Tell me.” he whispered.
I shook my head “I’d rather get ready for school.”
“On a Sunday?” he asked condescendingly.
“Oh.” I huffed. I slid back under the covers. All I honestly wanted to do was fall back into a normal pattern of sleep. Have normal dreams, get up at normal hours. It was starting to seem as though reality wasn’t my only issue.
I would love to be able to have a dreamless night. I mean, a truly dreamless night. One were I can just wake up one morning and not be bombarded by wolves. Or not wake up next to such a perfect being, it would help my ego.
I need a night were I can just be left alone and not worry about vampires watching me in my sleep. Or, maybe, a whole weekend…
I shoved the covers off and ran to the laptop, smiling.
“What? What is it, what’s wrong?” his words jumbled together as he followed me.
“Nothing’s wrong, jeez! You need to calm down… a lot.” I answered “I just forgot that I had made plans with some girlfriends a long time ago.”
Ah-ha! I e-mailed Andrea and Julia my plans for next weekend. It only took a few minutes to get their replies.
Andrea had plans that weekend, unfortunately. Jesse’s taking her to some expensive restaurant, and then she’s going to Florida with one of her friends for a week.
Julia’s e-mail was much more enthusiastic. She was thrilled to hear from me and she wrote about how much she misses me and how she can’t wait to see me.
I turned around and found Andrew right over my shoulder. His breath was as icy cool as his skin.
“Creeping my e-mail, now, are we?” I teased uneasily.
The corner of his lips turned up “Nah. I was just curious. So… we’re going camping this weekend, are we?”
“We are not.” I defined while I stood up “I’m having a girl’s night. You are more than welcome to wait here for me, though.” I smirked up at him.
