"Deep in thought?"
Asked Ashton by way of greeting, interrupting Cerah's thoughts.
Think of the devil, thought Cerah glaring at Ashton.
Ashton Ruine took her glare as a welcome sign and made himself comfortable on the swing beside hers.
Cerah rolled her eyes and looked away from him, afraid that she might smack him for dating her best friend. She kicked the sand beneath her feet to distract herself from thinking of ways to murder him.
"What's with the higher than usual level of hatred, queen bee?" Asked Ashton with a teasing glint in his blue-green eyes.
"Don't call me queen bee," snarled Cerah.
"What? You don't like the nick name your dearest best friends gave you?" He asked with mocking shock on his unfairly handsome and stupid face.
"It doesn't sound the same on my rival's mouth." She said kicking the ground to move the swing to and fro, just to avoid looking at his face.
"Fine we'll argue about that later. Now tell me what's gotten you all worked up on the very first day of the year. I don't remember doing anything to get this reaction." He said moving to swing in the same pace as her.
Ugh.. I have to change the topic! NOW!
As if in response to her cry for help, a tiny animated voice pierced through the air, "Asheyyyyy".
Ashton got off the swing to pick up the cute little girl who had come running to him, her arms wide open.
"Woww Cerah is also here!" She said thrilled.
"Hey Anne! I missed you so much baby." Said Cerah smiling widely. Cerah got off the swing to stand beside Ashton, holding out her arms, gesturing for Anna to come to her. But Anna, instead of coming to Cerah moved away from her, across Ashton's shoulder to his back, so that she was hanging from his neck, on his back.
Anna whispered something in Ashton's ear and his eyes took on a mischievous glint.
This doesn't look good at all thought Cerah, but stood her ground when Ashton walked towards her, taking one step at a time.
"What are you doing?" Asked Cerah narrowing her eyes at him, refusing to take a step behind. But when he was too close, closer than deemed appropriate for two rivals, his smirk fell and his eyes shined bright with an emotion she had never seen there before. Her resolve crumbled and she took a step back with a visible gulp.
You pathetic excuse of a tongue inside my mouth! You need to move NOW!
Sorry hun.. It's more fun to watch while lying down here.
Is my tongue talking back to me!?
Stupid Cerah stop hallucinating!
She felt her back hit a wall.
No no no this can't be happening.
Cerah found herself unable to look away from Ashton Ruine's infamously captivating blue-green eyes as he slowly raised his left hand and brushed the hair out of her face with the back of his hand. Cerah felt his knuckles unintentionally brush her cheek causing her to tighten her body to stop herself from feeling all sorts of maddening sensations his slightest touch seemed to trigger within her. Unaware of the war waging within her, Ashton studied every feature of Cerah's face as though making sure they hadn't changed even a bit over the break when they hadn't seen each other.
For the love of God this scene couldn't get any more cliché-er, if that's even a word. And for heaven's sake there's a 7-year old kid watching!
