The next morning Roman woke up with a smile on his face. His older brother, Logan was fast asleep as usual. The little prince had to get ready to catch the bus. He thought about waking up Logan, but he figured he could go down by himself today. He very quietly got out of bed and tip toed away to get changed.
He put on his normal wrinkly clothes that desperately needed washed, and put on his cape and crown. He threw on his school bag and grabbed Thomas off of the bed. He slowly opened the door and looked to make sure Logan was still asleep. Satisfied that he managed to get ready by himself, he left and shut the door behind him with a soft click.
He ran down the hallway with the intent of getting out of the building as fast as possible. Roman has seen some of the people in his building, and he didn't like any of them. Well, except for Janus. He was always nice to him and even lets Roman pet his snake, Joan. He finally gets to the staircase and walks down two flights to the main floor.
He finally makes it to the sidewalk and begins walking in the direction of his bus stop. He hugs Thomas as he walks, because something about this seems wrong. The sun is just coming up, and though it's beautiful, the sun is always up when Logan takes Roman to the bus stop. The prince just decided that it was probably just his imagination. He continued walking.
After a while, Roman finally realized that he didn't know where he was. There were a lot of shops and bright lights where he was and a lot of cars, too. Frightened by all the noise around him, he stood in a small corner between too buildings and began crying. Though he was a powerful prince, not much can be done when he was in untracked territory.
"Hey, kiddo. You alright?" A strange voice asked him. Roman was scared to look up, but knew he had to. A short man with blonde hair was bent down in front of him. He was dressed like he was going on a run or to go work out. He looked kind, and Roman couldn't help but think he looked familiar.
He knew he wasn't supposed to talk to strangers. He pays attention in class. However, he was lost, and had no way of getting back home. So he just shook his head slowly. The blonde man frowned sadly.
"Are you lost?"
Roman nodded. The blonde man thought for a moment. Once he was done, he looked back at Roman and held out his hand. "You want me to help you find your way home?" He asked. His smile was warm and calming, which was a somewhat relief to Roman's racing mind.
The small prince looked down at the man's hand and then back at his face. He couldn't see his features well in the dark, but he did see a key detail; his glasses. Logan had glasses and he was the nicest person Roman could ever think of. So, by pure logic, this person had to be really nice to.
Roman, still a bit hesitant, took the man's hand. He smiled and said, "I'm Patton, by the way. It's nice to meet you.." Patton trailed off, as he didn't know the little boy's name.
"I'm Prince Roman!" He exclaimed, smiling. He let his cautious guard down very quickly to reveal who he really was. The man smiled.
"Forgive me for not recognizing you, your highness!" Patton said, and bowed. This got a giggle out of Roman, who was smiling wide. Nobody ever treated him like a real prince except for Logan.
The two walked around the large city, cars buzzing past in a blur on the streets. Patton took Roman down every street, asking him if he recognized anything. Every time the little prince replied with a shake of his head or a quiet, "No."
After about an hour of searching, Patton checked his watch. He bent down to meet Roman's eyes and asked him another question, "Where do ya go to school, kiddo?"
