Logan's p.o.v.
I unlocked the door to the apartment after my shift at the grocery store. Roman runs in and jumps on the pull-out bed, which I didn't have time to fold back into a couch for obvious reasons. He sits up to meet my eyes and smiles as he bounces on the bed.
"What's for dinner?"
I went to our small fridge to see if we had anything to eat. Just as I suspected, our fridge was absolutely empty except for a half full water bottle. I couldn't use any of my money, because I had to put it all into tomorrow's rent. I was about to turn to Roman and tell him the bad news, when I heard a knock at the door.
I walked to the door and opened it a crack to see who it was. Once I saw it wasn't anyone bad, I opened the door to reveal Janus standing there with his snake around his neck and a large bag in his left hand.
"Evenin', darlin'. Mind if I come in?" He asked. He didn't wait for my answer, however, he just walked straight in and sat the bag down on top of the small counter. He went over and took it upon himself to fold the blanket and the bed back into a couch. He then turned to Roman and ruffled his hair.
"Well don't ya look clean!" He said. This odd statement made me look closer at Roman. Janus was right. Roman's hair wasn't greasy like mine anymore. In fact, he looked the cleanest he's been since his last shower which was...god, I don't even remember when.
I don't know how I didn't notice this, but he was wearing some odd clothing as well. Instead of his normal red and white attire, he was wearing long black pants with a black hoodie with purple patches scattered all over it.
Despite the dark and depressing clothing, Roman looked like any other kid. If you didn't know him, you'd never be able to guess the terrible circumstances both himself and I were living under.
"I got a bath today!" Roman said excitedly. Janus laughed as my brother ran over to the bag, yanking it off of the counter to see what it was. He smiled and started jumping up and down.
"Food! Food! Food!" He said excitedly.
Janus took the bag and took out three boxes, handing two to Roman and myself. I opened the box and inhaled the smell of--
"PIZZA!!!" Roman yelled and immediately began shoveling the personal pizza into his mouth. Any cleanliness that I had just mentioned about Roman was gone. There was sauce all over his mouth, melted cheese in his hair, and crumbs all over his clothes.
I was about to tell Roman to eat with manners, but Janus did the same exact thing. The only difference was he fed some of the pepperoni to his snake. I was the only one on the couch who was eating pizza like a normal human being.
After we all finished our pizza, I took a napkin out of the bag and began to try and clean Roman up. I got all the sauce, pulled out all the cheese, and wiped off all the crumbs. He just smiled innocently at me. Janus just wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and ruffled his hair.
"Roman, can ya watch Joan while I talk to your brother outside?"
"Of course!" Roman's eyes lit up as Janus carefully handed Roman the corn snake. Joan's red eyes looked directly at me, and I got a bit nervous. I've never liked snakes, and though I knew that corn snakes rarely bite, I didn't want Roman near it.
Before I could tell Roman to put the snake down, Janus tugged on my shirt and motioned to the door. I sighed as he opened it and the two of us stepped outside, the door closing behind us.
"Logan, darlin', I'm really sorry but I'm gonna need that rent by the time you get home from work."
I felt my heart sink. "But..I'll only have enough once I get my paycheck from the store tomorrow too."
