Logan's p.o.v.

My co-worker had to take the day off today because she claimed to be under the weather. She's very kind and not one for lying, so I believed her. Still, that left me the only employee for the day. I had to restock, un-package, and man the cash register all by myself.

Near the end of my shift, I figured I'd make it easier for Emile when he came in for work after me. I figured I would go to the backroom and stock some of the items that he usually has to deal with.

I looked to make sure there was no one in need of service before I went in the backroom to restock on some of the canned food. I took the box on top and lifted it, carrying it out of the room and shutting the door behind me with my foot. Combined with my drowsiness, malnutrition, and overall weak muscles, carrying a figurative ton of cans really feels like carrying a literal ton.

I made my way to the other side of the store where the cans were, and turned a corner to go into the isle. I felt my pant leg snag on something by my feet. Before I really processed what was happening, I already began to fall, the box falling from my hands and my head colliding with the ground.

I groaned and forced myself to at least sit back up. I got a serious head-rush and heard a slight ringing in my ear, though it wasn't too bad. I held my head as my vision went spotty. I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder.

Once the ringing stopped and my vision returned to normal, I looked to my side to see that the man I had encountered earlier today was kneeling down beside me. I felt my face flush as I realized he probably saw me fall.

"Are you alright?" He asked with concern clear in his voice. I shrugged his hand away, not wanting any pity from him. I already felt embarrassed enough.

"I'm quite alright, thank you." I said as I stood up. I immediately got another head-rush and began swaying. I felt like I was going to fall again. Patton stood up and on instinct, I grabbed onto the closest thing I could to balance myself.

That closest "thing" was Patton.

Once the dizziness had finally subsided, I quickly moved my hand away from him. "My apologies." I said quickly. He just smiled.

"It's no trouble, don't worry!"

I bent down and picked the box back up, and started walking the rest of the short way to the soup isle. I got about three steps before the bottom of the box broke and all of the cans spilled out onto the floor.

I cursed under my breath as I bent down yet again to pick up all of the cans. I saw an extra set of hands helping me and I looked over to see that Patton was still here. I barely know this person and yet I've already made a complete fool out of myself. Two times in a row.

"You don't have to help me, I'll be quite alright doing this myself." I said, trying to get him to stop helping me and just finish shopping. He just shook his head and continued to help me.

"What kind of person would I be if I didn't help a new pal?"

New pal? His statement confused me a bit. We just met today and we only talked for a half hour. Besides, he did most of the talking. He barely knows who I am or the grotesque life I live.

Though I didn't want help, I somehow knew that I wouldn't be able to talk him out of anything. Besides, I think part of me was grateful for his help. It was a lot less strain on my body opposed to me doing this all on my own.

We both picked up every last can and carried it over to their proper shelves. I began to stack them neatly and Patton handed each can to me one by one. Soon, the cans were all in their proper place. Patton smiled at me, but his face quickly became shocked.
