06| Punishment & The Game

" Where is she?" I heard Aunt Susan' voice. I pick my head up to see Hayes sleeping by me. I couldn't sleep. I was so scared of what will happening.
I see her walking towards the cell. She looks at me. Is she mad or disappointed?
I get up and walk to her.
" I can't believe this. Bethany, you are better than this. " She said.
" I know. I-" I cut myself off and look at Hayes.
" Him? Did he make you do this?" She asked.
" No. I wanted to do it." I said.
" Honey, I'm proud that you took a risk but this is unacceptable." She said. Hayes wakes up and looks at me then at Aunt Susan.
Hayes Pov
I woke up and heard voices. I don't feel Bethany by me. I get up and focus my eyes on the two figures. Bethany's aunt.
I walk towards them.
" I don't want two of you to meet." She said. Bethany looks down.
" Okay." I said. Bethany looks at me, shocked. Yea, Bethany is a cool girl but we are different.
" Um, yea." She said, a little surprised. They let us out and I'm already walking out the door. I started to focus more on what she told me.
I hurt her, it's obvious. I'm changing her life and she likes it. Now, I can't see her anymore. I can't change her.
Bethany 's Pov
Aunt Susan drives to the house. She doesn't talk to me.
" I'm sorry." I said, hoping that she will talk. She doesn't say anything so I just went upstairs.
*Monday*
My alarm clock wakes me up. I open my eyes. I get up and walk to my bathroom. I showered and do my daily routine. I blow dried my hair then picked out an outfit. I picked out a white crop top and a high waisted shorts. I grabbed a cardigan. I curled my hair. I grab my phone and backpack then walked downstairs. Ari was already waiting for me.
" Excuse me, I'm looking for Bethany. Have you seen her?" She asked. I laughed.
" Sorry, haven't see her yet." I said and we both laugh.
" You look totally different. " She said.
" How?" I asked.
" That outfit. The makeup. The hair." She said.
" So?"
" You would not show your belly button. You don't like wearing makeup. " She said.
" I just want to look different for once. And I do wear makeup." I said.
" Is it Hayes?" She asked.
" No. " I said, confused. I heard a knock on the door and Gabe walks in.
" Um, time for school." He said.
" Let's go." Ari said and we walked out the door.
" So, how was your weekend?" I asked both of them.
" Well, after the party, I ate then slept. The next day, I went buy more food." Ari said.
" Well, I went on a date with Katy Finn." Gabe said.
" Who's Katy?" I asked.
" Cheer captain. Super sweet. Nice gal." Ari smiled.
" Beautiful. My dream girl." Gabe said.
" She only noticed you, because you are on the football team." Ari laughed.
" Wait, you tried out for football?" I asked.
" Yep. I made it and I'm proud of it." Gabe said.
" Just don't turn into a snotty jock with bad hair." Ari said. I laughed.
" Hey, I have awesome hair." He said and he flipped it. I notice his hair wasn't in a quiff.
" You didn't do your hair." I said as I patted it.
" Katy likes it like this. " Gabe smiled.
" Oh, no! You're already changing. Bethany, we need to save him!" Ari shouted as she jumped in his back.
" Ari!" Gabe shouted as he stumbled forward but quickly gained his balance.
" Bethany, I'll hold him. Just slap him a few times and he should go back to normal." She whispered to me. I couldn't help but laugh. Ari jumped off and continued to walk.
" Ari, you are crazy." Gabe said.
" Thank you." She smiled. I quickly stopped laughing.
" Football game." I said.
" Yea, today during school. Going to cheer me on?" Gabe asked.
" I'm not going." I said.
" You didn't bring any money? I'll pay for you." Ari said.
" No, it's just..." I trailed off.
" That jerk, Hayes. What did he do? " Ari asked.
" Nothing. Well." I couldn't find the words.
" Spill it." Gabe said.
" We went to an area where we weren't allowed to go in-" I was cut off.
" Why does this relate to the problem?" Gabe said.
" Let me finish. So, we got caught by the police and went to jail. Later on, my aunt came. She said we can't see each other anymore." I said.
" So?" Ari said.
" Hayes didn't even argue about it." I said.
" Maybe, he doesn't want to get in anymore trouble." Gabe said. Ari bust out laughing.
" Hayes? A good kid? Ha!" She laughed.
" He said- I thought he liked me." I said.
" Well, that's what you get." Ari said.
" Ari! Can you please try to be a better friend?" Gabe said.
" I'm sorry but that's the cold truth. Hayes does this to mostly every girl. " Ari said.
" Did it happen to you?" I asked. Suddenly, Ari stopped smiling.
" Actually, yea. Last year, I was the new kid. After class, Madison dropped my books to the ground. Hayes helped me pick it up. That's when the trouble starts, we hung out. We drank every night and made out every day. Then one night, we went to a party. I woke up and he wasn't there. My hair was shaved off. I tried calling him but he wouldn't answer. When I went to school the next day, he was kissing Madison. I made a mistake and went talk to him. Everyone laughed at me. Even Hayes. " Ari began to tear up.
" I'm sorry." I said as I hugged her.
" That's why society is messed up. We think we can have the perfect relationship but in reality, there is no such thing as a perfect relationship. We think life is easy but it's not. Teens drink, smoke, and make huge mistakes that we regret." Gabe said.
" And sometimes, we just can't handle the stress and pain anymore." I said.
" Bethany, I don't want you to fall for Hayes. I don't want you to drink then wake up with all your hair shaved off." Ari said.
" I was almost in that situation." I said.
" What?" Gabe asked.
" During the party, Hayes and I had wine. But luckily, Madison caught us." I said.
" Did he say that he never wanted to hurt you?" Ari asked. I nodded.
" That jerk." Ari said.
" Bethany, please don't fall for him. Promise us. Promise to Gabe and me that you will not fall for Hayes." Ari said.
" I promise. " I said.
" We just want you to be safe." Gabe said.
" I understand." I said. We finally reached the school and walked in. We walked into our class and sat down. Madison walked in alone. She gave me a dirty look.
" Where are your sidekicks, Charles?" Ari shouted to her. Madison have her attention to Ari.
" Thanks for asking. They are sick today. Maybe it's from the disease that you carry everyday." Madison laughed as she went to her seat.
Later on, Hayes walked in. He tried walking to me but Madison pulled him away.
" You don't want to be with them especially her. " Madison shot me a look.
" Yea, we are too cool for you." Ari said.
" And weird." Gabe said.
" And awesome." I said.
" There we go." Ari high-fived us. The bell rang and class started.
During history, all I thought about was Hayes. Yes, I promised that I won't fall for him but I kind of am. It is just him. I don't know why. I can't find a reason to why I'm falling for him. Maybe, it's the way he looks at me or the way he holds my hand. Maybe, his smile. Or its just my heart messing with me. What can it be?
The bell rang. I learned nothing. I need to stop thinking about him.
Bethany, school is more important than a guy.
" C'mon, math class is starting." Ari said as we walked to the next class.
" Then gym." Gabe said.
" Why are you talking to me like a little kid?" I asked.
" Well, you are the youngest out of the group." Gabe said.
" You are only one month older." I said.
" Here is the real reason, you didn't listen to talk during history. You were like sleeping." Ari said.
" With your eyes open." Gabe said in a taunting tone. I rolled my eyes.
" So what were you thinking of?" Ari asked.
" Um... Look, the bell is about to ring. Let's go to class!" I said as I grabbed Ari and Gabe's hand and quickly "ran" to class.
Hours later, the football game is about to start.
" Boom." Ari slaps a ticket on my desk.
" I don't want to go." I said.
" To bad. I know Hayes is there but Gabe is also there. Support a friend. " Ari said.
" Fine." I said. It's better than sitting in a class.
" It's a great waste of time but only one problem, the game may be long. And our team may suck." Ari said.
" Don't say that about our school team." A random girl said.
" We suck. You only say that because Hayes is so called hot. Well, he drinks and doesn't care about this school." Ari said.
" You're just a hater of Hayes." She said.
" Sorry for having enough common sense to know that he is a bad person." Ari said. The girl just rolled her eyes and walked away.
" Ouch, Ari." I said.
" I strongly dislike him, okay?" Ari said.
" I noticed." I said as we walked to the football field. We sat on the bleachers.
" Hey." A guy said to me as he sat down. He had brown hair that was in a quiff. He had big, green eyes. He smiled, showing his two, deep dimples. I waved and sat closer to Ari.
I watched the football team run out on the field. The crowd cheered.
" Cheer louder!" I hear a cheer leader shout.
" That's Katy." Ari said. Katy had long, dark red hair that was put in a pony tail. Her skin is pale but not ghost pale. She is skinny.
" You know what I know about her?" Ari asked.
" She doesn't judge anyone. She doesn't care what you look like. Sure, she has some opinions but it's nice one. See that girl, her name is Julia. She doesn't look like the typical cheer leader. She isn't skinny, but Katy doesn't care about that." Ari said. I watch Julia cheer with the cheer leaders. I smile.
" See, not all of society is messed up. We still have some hope left." Ari smiled.
The game started. Ari and I cheered for Gabe. I do admit, I'm glad that I went.
Maybe a few hours later, the game ended.
" Our team won! We actually won!" Ari shouted.
" Wow, during my whole school years here, this is the first time, our school won." The guy next to me said.
" Let's go see Gabe!" Ari shouted as she grabbed my hand. We ran down the bleachers and ran to Gabe. I ran and hugged him.
" Ew, you're sweaty but I don't care." Ari said as she hugged him.
" We won. " Gabe laughed as we pulled away.
" I told you that you were a good luck charm." I heard Hayes's voice. I turn around, hoping that Hayes will be right behind me. Nope, he was talking to Madison. She smiled and kissed him. I turn around and see Ari looked at me.
" Let's go home." She said as we walked away.
Hayes Pov
I watch Bethany and I think Ari leave. I knew Bethany would be good luck. I just told Madison instead because she is my girlfriend.
Maybe I should have argued. I want to talk to her. I need too. But I also need to be the cool, popular guy.
" Party at my house. You coming, Hayes?" A random guy ask. I don't feel like partying but I have too.
" Sure, dude." I said.
" Yea." He cheered. I shook my head and walked away. That's want I get for being the popular, bad boy.
