"Rowan! Rowan, you have to wake up!" a voice calls to me in my sleep.
I turn away from the voice, waving my hand dismissively. "A couple more minutes," I mutter.
"You said that half an hour ago!" the voice complains.
I sniff the air to smell the familiar scent of coffee and sigh as I realize who it was. "No, I didn't," I deny it stubbornly. "I most certainly did not say that."
"Yes, you did, Rowan, now wake up!" the masculine voice says in exasperation, and then there is a shake on my shoulder. "You shouldn't be sleeping in this late!"
"It's only in the morning!" I complain, drawing the covers over my head and scooting away from the person.
"It's noon, Rowan! NOON!" the voice continues.
I shift under the covers, trying to get comfortable again. "Nope."
I heard a sigh and then...
"Ahh! Oh my God, Rowan, there's a spider on you!"
"KYAAAAAAAA!" I jumped up immediately and looked around wildly. "WHERE IS IT?! KILL IT!" I shriek, panicked.
Then I look around more carefully and see Sebastian, my brother, on the floor laughing his head off.
"Sebastian, you jerk!" I yell. I jump on him, causing him to flatten against the marble floor, and his laughing stops with a cough.
"Rowan...did you know you're really heavy?" he asks, a forced mischievous smile on his face.
My jaw drops and I jump up. "You are full of evil," I declare.
"Why, thank you," he says, laughing again while bowing from the waist. "It's time to eat lunch. Or breakfast for you. You're lucky I made the maids hold your breakfast for you, so now you get to eat your lunch and breakfast at the same time."
I roll my eyes and shed my red night robe after untying the knot around my waist.
Sebastian sits down on my bed, drinking his signature cup of coffee, staring at me for a little bit.
I frown as I slip a white button shirt over my head. "What's wrong, Sebastian?" I ask as I start to button it up, one by one.
"You're finally turning 18 tomorrow, right?" he asks absentmindedly.
I grin and pull on some black pants while tucking my shirt in. "You remembered!"
"Of course I did. It's not all the time my little baby brother turns into an adult." His golden gaze hardens. "Are you supposed to be as thin as you are?"he asks accusingly, raising an eyebrow.
I cock my head as I pull on my boots. I tuck my pants in as I zip them up. "I think I'm more lean, not thin," I reply honestly.
"Lean?" Sebastian laughs. He sets his cup of coffee down on the table nearby. "You wish. If anyone's lean, that would be me. You? You're just plain thin."
I frown. "I have a six pack!" I defend myself. "I am a very healthy, active teenage boy!"
"And I have an eight," he counters. "And you call yourself healthy while staying here all day long, reading books and watching movies and eating junk food? Healthy?"
I sigh. "You're such a jerk," I say, defeated, as I put my belt on.
He laughs but then when I feel his intense gaze on me, I gulp nervously. "Sebastian?" I ask hesitantly.
"Did Dad starve you when I was gone?"
