"Dad, I want to keep him," I say.

His jaw drops. "What? But--"

"I like him and I want to keep him," I say again. "Is that alright?"

Dads mouth opens and closes. "But--what--why--what--"

"Dad, I want him," I repeat.

Xavier's face turns red. "Rowan--"

"Dad," I say firmly, ignoring the tug in the back of my mind.

Robots can have emotions?

"But isn't he broken?" Dad exclaims. "He's broken, right?"

"He's a broken robot. So?" I ask, leaning on one leg. "I want him," I say stubbornly.

My father looks at me to Xavier. "You want him?"

"Yes."

He sighs in frustration. "But--he's... Ugh! Fine! Go on!"

I grin in happiness. "Really? Thanks, Dad!" I jump up and hug him.

He hugs me back after a slight hesitation. Dad then holds me back by the shoulders at arm length. "If anything goes wrong with the robot, tell me and I'll destroy it."

I smile nervously. "Thanks, Dad. But that won't be necessary."

I ruffle Xavier's hair, enjoying the feel of it. "He said yes!"

He shrinks away, ducking. "I know. I was there."

"Aren't you happy?" I ask, a little hurt.

"Sure."

"Really?"

"Sure."

"Really?"

"Fine, I'm really happy," Xavier says, his face turning red. "E--Especially wh-when..."

I frown and lean towards his face. "When?"

"N-Nothing!" Xavier shouts. "It's nothing at all. Forget it!"

I frown. "Why? Just tell me! I want to know, so tell me!"

Xavier covers his face. "No! I told you to forget it! Forget I said anything!"

I ruffle his hair again. "No way! You have to tell me! Don't leave me hanging!"

He groans and then murmurs quietly, "Well... you know... when you said..."

"You wanted me..."

I blush. "O-Oh... that..."

He shifts. "Well... I really liked it...because I've never been really wanted before..."
