Mina's POV
I watched Chaeyoung who's lying in the hospital bed. She was unconscious. That's what the Doctor says. She looks like in a state of coma. But her eyes opened. And I can see the dynamic expression in there.
I don't believe in the scientific explanations that doctors say. They couldn't close her eyes. They said it was because of the shock that had occurred. But she's okay. She was just like sleeping.
I doubt that. I stood in the chair to push aside the curtain that send a glowing light from the window. Once again I lay beside the bed. I know what could have happened to her. This is not the first time this has happened in the city. But these doctors always insist on their reasons. Reason that cannot reinstate her back.
The door to the room opened that cause me to turn. Chaeyoung's mom enters. She looks so tired. She sat on the sofa in the corner and take a deep sighed. She ignored me. I wanted to talk to her but I knew it will just worsen the situation.
They don't literally blame me for what happened. But I knew they were mad at me. I should not have neglected their daughter. I wish I had accompanied her that night. Hope she didn't get hurt. My head palpitated with the thought. I massage my temple and tried to ignore it. It's almost two day that I didn't take a good rest.
"Sharon, you better go home first." I turned to Chaeyoung's mom. I cringe at the name she uses. I'm not used to that name. I prefer Mina. Sharon is my nickname when I'm still in U.S but it's too feminine and fragile sounding and I'm already here at Korea so I prefer Mina instead.
"It's okay, Untie. I'll stay for a little while." I watched Chaeyoung again. There was no expression that could see on her pale face. Only those opened eyes that could say that she can still feel.
Whether she sees us or hears me, I don't know. For someone to see her current state, it must've look creepy. That was her parent's reaction when they first saw her. But she's not the only one who was heard to be like this. So it's as if it's no big deal.
But for me it is.
"Mina, please. We want our family's privacy." I was stunned. I couldn't help but be a little hurt by what she said. Family. I stood up from the chair and smiled slightly.
"All right. I'll be back in the afternoon." I took my belongings to the table. She got up from the couch to look at me. Her eyes are red and puffy. But I couldn't help but notice the expression in there. Why this happened to my daughter? It can be you.
I tried to swallow the bad feeling that hit my throat. "You have class tomorrow, right? We can take care of her. It's best for you not to go here first. It may even interfere with your schooling."
I blink because of what she said. I smile slightly. "I will comeback no matter what."
I walked out of Chaeyoung's private room. I passed the hallway with relatives or nurses scattered there. Instead of going home, I stopped at the park inside the hospital.
I sat in the swing and sighed. I saw my reflection earlier on the glass door of the Hospital. Pale because of not having a heat from the sun. Messy hair. Sleepless.
My fists fluttered in annoyance. This should not have happened. Not my best friend. It was my greatest nightmare. We promise that we will not be victims. But now it's happening at my own best friend. How can I wake up from this nightmare if I'm not even sleeping?
I tried to fix my hair. I tie it in a messy bun. I get my phone in the bag. It's off. I forgot that I haven't charge it for the past few days. I just shook my head and hurriedly ran out of the Hospital. I hailed a taxi.
