Spinel

It was in a flash that we made it to Homeworld. And it was in a flash that I realized something was wrong. The always luminous throne room, now barely has enough light to cast shadows. The silence in the room shakes me to my core.

The throne room is always bustling. Whether it be with servants or the actual royals themselves. But now...I don't know how to react. And I don't dare make a sound. "What happened?" Garnet barely whispers.

The thrones cast ominous shadows onto the marble floor. I may have felt anxious some days, or a bit distraught, but never scared. And the way this atmosphere is shaping out to be, is very alarming.

The dead silence, the hesitancy of even moving off the warp pad is immense. I new there was a gravity to this whole situation, but it didn't hit me fully until now. There is something terribly wrong. And I feel completely out of the loop.

Before I could even communicate my confusion to Garnet, we both hear a noise growing louder. It was the crescendo of approaching footsteps...of multiple gems. "Lets go." Garnet whispers, leading us both away from the sounds of incoming and possibly hostile gems.

If something were to have happened to the Diamonds, it is safe to say it wouldn't be because they support Steven. We turn into an adjacent hallway, sticking to the side of the wall. I barely poke my head out to look into the dark throne room, Garnet looking over my head and behind me.

In comes a team of approximately six rubies marching in pairs into the throne room. And oh did my anxiety spike. "What on this crazy planet is going on?" I barely whisper to myself. "Why are there rubies patrolling a dark and empty throne room?"

The rubies march in silence and in uniform. Each step in sync, rhythmically pounding the crisp marble repeatedly. It only takes moments before they swiftly move in and out. It doesn't look like they are particularly looking for anyone. (*cough* us). It just seems as if someone had ordered them to make sure that there is no one in the area. (*cough* also us).

But it takes only one person to notice that something was off. "Why is there dirt on the warp pad?"

Shit.

The mud that is seeped with poison is still caked to my shoes. And is a clear and evident track to where we are standing right now. It only takes seconds before they scan the muddied path to our very location. Garnet and I snap our heads from looking into the throne room, to out of their line of sight.

"There must have been an intruder that has come in through the warp pad!" One of the rubbies announce, finally connecting the dots. There was a murmur of agreement. "They must have went that way!" Another one shouts, alerting the rest of the group.

And it only takes seconds before they are barreling right for our location.
