He lays there.
The mustang smokes slowly. I unbuckle my seatbelt and turn to him. I shake him. No response. His eyes are closed, his hair ruffled, and his seatbelt twisted against his body. His arms dangle to his side as the car lays on its side. His head hangs, causing his chin to touch his collarbone. Tears begin to swell of the fear I have now. What if he's gone?
My heart aches. I call 911. I try to get out but it's not possible sense the passenger side is in the air as the car lays on its side. So, I sit there. Tears overwhelming me terribly. I cry so hard. I feel like this is it.
I begin to pass out as my head pounds. Then, the sirens sound as the ambulance approaches. I feel like this is it. Perhaps it is.

I wake with lights in my face. The heart monitor beeps slowly. My vision is blurry. There is only one thing I think of, despite my pain. Chris.
I jump up, ignoring the chords attached to parts of my body. The fluid bags shake as I rip the chords away from my skin. It stings but I still run. I see a doctor walking down the hall.
"Excuse me?" I question.
"Yes?" He asks.
I'm breathing heavy.
"Do you know where Chris is?"
"Chris?" He asked confused. "The Chris from the recent accident with Samantha?"
"Yes, I'm Samantha. Where is he?" I asked trying to catch my breath.
"Down this hall, take a left, the first door on the right." he finished as he pointed around.
"Thank you." I nodded as I ran down the hall to his room. The heart monitor beeps slowly. Almost with pauses so long I feel like it could stop completely at any time. Despite my gown and pain I pull a chair by his bed and take a seat. I grab his hand and hold it tight. He doesn't move a muscle.
"I love you." I whisper with tears swelling. "I'm sorry. Please don't let me lose you when I've just found you."
My lip trembles.
I stand up and kiss his forehead, his nose, and then his lips.
I never look back as I walk out.
Maybe that's what I should've done.
